10 years, 7 months ago at Oct 13 1:52 - Despite the fact Capcom doesn't seem to have any plans for Mega Man in the works Mega Man has become a rather topical subject as of late due in part to Keiji Inafune's new project Mighty No.9 which seems set to be the spiritual successor to the blue bomber.
Everyone I know seems to be excited for this thing even though it's release is far off in 2015... but I can't really get excited. Part of me thinks Capcom isn't really wrong in their bizarre strategy to nothing with Mega Man other than to milk the franchise in other ways:

(Totally buying this even though I already legitimately own 80% of the
music on it from previous releases. Yes, I am a sucker....)
Am I the only one that kind of feels that Mega Man... err... kind of needs to be discontinued? I will always be a fan - and I have a ton of the games, mainly from the original, X and Legends continuities - but to be honest I think that Capcom and Inafune beat the ever living hell out of the formula over the years. Also, why is it every time Keiji Inafune opens his mouth now I kind of want to punch him? He goes on record as saying that Japanese game developers are in a rut and their ideas are stale... but then he goes and tries to recreate the wheel with Mighty No.9? Mighty No.9 doesn't strike me as the kind of project that is going to change the landscape of gaming in anyway so why even bother? Then he goes on to brown-nose Nintendo for how Mario has stayed fresh over the years over the million and a half spin-offs. I'll admit it is true there is more variety in the massive catalog of Mario titles then there is in the Mega Man... but I don't think Nintendo should really be commended to the level he suggests.
Then there is the fact that Mighty No.9 is being headed up by Inti Creates. Am I the only one that... really kind of dislikes Inti? I mean they have an excellent group of music composers but beyond that they've really failed to make me care about more recent Mega Man games.
Anyway, sorry for going on and on... but personally I'm fine with Mega Man being discontinued, and I don't think creating a new series to more or less take it's place is really necessary. Sometimes things just need to die and I think this is one such case.
