i was gonna ask about favorite song lyrics, but thought that might be a bit broad. how 'bout some lyrics that have meant a lot to you for whatever reason (and state the reason, if you're willing).

edit. GemLil officially apologises for her reaction. Over zealous emo-radar it was.

wow, a bit harsh. and to think i just left you a nice comment on your profile. (not a huge emo fan either) but here goes...

From I SEE A DARKNESS

"well, i hope that someday buddy we have peace in our lives,
together or apart, alone or with our wives, and we can stop our whoring and pull the smiles inside, and light it up forever and never go to sleep my best unbeaten brother."

i know this song as a johnny cash cover on CASH III. song reminds me a lot of me and a good friend. had some trouble and just trying to make things better now. wont get real personal.

Didn't mean it to sound harsh, just have a natural venom in me that I can't curtail I think. If this thread is going to thrive you've got to stick to 2 lines at the most, we don't want to get into copyright issues you see.

Radiohead- True Love Waits:

And true love waits
In haunted attics
And true love lives
On lollipops and crisps

Sentimental as it comes, but I always feel love does just survive on sweets and junk food that it can get it hands on until it's done 'waiting'.

Hope I'm not too Emo now...

Moby: We Are All Made Of Stars

Growing in numbers
Growing in speed
I can't fight the future
I can't fight what I see

People that come together
People that fall apart
No one can stop us now
'cause we are all made of stars

I first heard this song shortly after 9/11 and I liked the message it sends of perseverance but then I was later hit with some of my own personal hardships in the winter of '02 and since then this songs reminds me of the saying: what ever doesn't kill you makes you stronger so this is my "rally song" when ever life gets a bit rough.

The Anthem

"it's a new day
But it all feels old
It's a good life
That's what I'm told
But everything and
All just feels the same

And my highschool
it felt more to me
Like a jail cell
A penittitary
My time spent there
it only made me sick

And i don't ever wanna
be like you
And i don't wanna
Do the things you do
I'm never gonna here
the words You say
cause i don't ever wanna
I don't ever wanna
be You
Don't wanna be just like you
ah what i'm saying is
this is the anthem
Throw all your hands up
You don't wanna be you"

i mena that verse speaks to me cause every day feels the same i don't want to be like anyone else and High school is like a mini jail where they teach you things do you know what i mean?
johnny obelisk 15 years, 9 months ago at Aug 12 20:48 -
that's some serious teenage angst you got goin' on, huh? j/k. look, i hated high school, and never planned on going to college. but i'm glad i did. it exposed me to all kinds of ideas that i never would have be exposed to otherwise. my advice: do you're best in school and go to college. but cultivate you're own interests; what are you interested in? and remember, the best teachers are not those that use students as an opportunity to duplicate themselves. a really teacher encourages students to push forward intellectually, to go beyond the teacher's own knowledge. but also remember that only a real teacher can help get you ready to go beyond. and never underestimate the importance of self-education.

thanks for replying to the thread though
good luck,

mike

My favourite line is:

Generation sex,
respects,
the rights,
of girls,
who wanna take their clothes off,
as long as we can all watch, thats OK

And Generation sex,
injects,
the sperm,
of worms,
into the eggs of field mice
so you can look real nice, for the boys.

johnny obelisk 15 years, 9 months ago at Aug 12 22:56 -
i like it and agree, GemLil, but "we should really all know better."

I dont want to be alone by green day
"Please don't think I'm crazy
I don't want you to understand
My mind is growing hazy
To hell with your helping hand
Why don't you just leave me alone
This conflict is my own
Keep your sources away from me
That's all"

I can't help it - I have to post something by Queen. This is just perfect (from Under Pressure):

"'Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And loves dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves"

I mostly adore it because it isn't some mushy, shallow definition of love. It really gets to the heart of it - an explanation not simply for relationship-type love.
johnny obelisk 15 years, 9 months ago at Aug 14 23:32 -
Charis, I have to admit, while I enjoy Queen, I really don't know much about them. I know they are really talented all around. I'm in a band and our drummer absolutely loves Queen. Maybe I'll check them out. Could you recommend an album?

Deleted 15 years, 9 months ago at Aug 14 23:38 -
I started out on the albums Classic Queen and Greatist Hits - they look the same and are blue and red, respectively. News of the World and A Night at the Opera are genius as well.

Just look for any album that has more than We are the Champions, We Will Rock You, and Another one Bites the Dust, and you'll be good (I can't stand it when people claim these to be the greatest Queen songs).
johnny obelisk 15 years, 9 months ago at Aug 14 23:40 -
yeah, I've heard about A Night At The Opera. I'll look into it. thanks.

Yeah what sucks is the lead singer ,can't remember the name, died of Aids
johnny obelisk 15 years, 9 months ago at Aug 16 22:32 -
Yeah, his name was Freddie Mercury and I remember it happening. He was one of the first public people to die an AIDS related death. Kinda of a strange time actually. I remember people being so freaked out about the disease. I mean, afraid of contracting it by shaking someone's hand, stuff like that. Charis might be able to tell you more about him.

A good song in dedication to Freddie Mercury and his death is Only the Good Die Young by Brian May (another member of Queen).

He'll surely be missed, but he was remarkable in his performances and while his death was tragic, it certainly shed light on the disease and drew awareness to it. And all in all, he accomplished what he wanted - "I won't be a rockstar, I will be a legend."

Styrofoam Boots/It's All Nice On Ice, Alright (Modest Mouse)

Well, all's not well
But I'm told that it'll all be quite nice
You'll be drowned in boots like Mafia
But your feet will still float like Christ's
And I'll be damned
They were right
I'm drowning upside down
My feet afloat like Christ's
I'm in heaven
Trying to figure out which stack
They're going to stuff us atheists into
When Peter and his monkey laugh
And I laugh with them
I'm not sure what at
They point and say
"We'll keep you in the back
Polishing halos, baking manna and gas"
Well, some guy comes in looking a bit
Like everyone I ever seen
He moves just like Crisco disco
Breath 100% Listerine
He says looking at something else
But directing everything to me
"Every time anyone gets on their knees to pray
Well, it makes my telephone ring
And I'll be damned"
He said, "You were right
No one's running this whole thing"
He had a theory, too
He said that God takes care of himself
God takes care of himself
And you of you
He said that God takes care of himself
God takes care of himself
And you of you
He said that God takes care of himself
God takes care of himself
And you of you
It's all nice on ice, all right
And it's not day
And it's not night
But it's all nice on ice, all right

"I want to be
Under the sea
In an octopus's garden
With You.

He'll let us in
Tell us where we've been
in an octopu's garden
in the shade.

i'd ask my freinds to come and see
an octopus's garden with me."
By the beatles.

it just speaks to me about how you want to go some where amazing and show everyone but you know you can't
