SEXYSTUFF

sheesh... does anyone else feel like the future depicted in this movie is already with us?

Lot's of people seem to be mistaking a computer for a cell phone. Last time I looked you could use all five fingers on a keyboard.

forget keyboard, coyotoeblue. what we need is a keypad like the one in the hospital in 'Idiocracy'. :)
after all, why mess around with 26 letters of the alphabet when a 16-keypad 'expressionometer' would suffice for forum postings.

damn... now I want to get my hands on a copy of that movie! :P

I don't mean to be mean or snide, I just weary of opening a thread and instead of seeing a conversation I see instant messaging. You can't really have a meaningful conversation that way or maybe you can; I've never tried. I just have to keep reminding myself not to tug the tiger's tail...

i think a certain competitor site (flixster) has implemented live instant-messaging chatting on a movie site, and i guess people think these forum boards work the same way?

And another reason why I prefer here to Flixster...
Maybe we need to start some discussions around here to actually get something going? I've tried quite a few times but it never amounts to much. :( I was thinking that perhaps we could do with some sort of News discussion group around here (what with yesterday's events in America) but I think it would just die...

No, I think it's more of a cultural/generational 'gap' and habit. If you spend most of your time chatting on a cell phone/blackberry/im it becomes the norm. For good or ill, I fear we're stuck with it.

I don't think thats completely true. I'm against some of the generalisation about teenagers that seems to be the norm lately. Maybe I'm just on the outer limits of the generation that have reduced their language down to the minimum along with their brains (in some cases). I use my phone for texting most days and the shortening of words on there hasn't affected the way I type online. Infact, when I was first getting regular access to the internet I typed like that too (ok, not quite to that extent) and realised other people's annoyance with it through use of forums and stoppped (on Newgrounds of all places, but that was probably about 5-6 years ago).
Not all teenagers type that way, and believe it or not some will probably grow out of it. For now I try to explain other people's problems with it, but stubborn attitudes prevail...

I'll cop to being a little facetious, but I was kinda serious too.

LOLOLOL! That is the BEST quote I have ever seen! I'm going to use that, if it's ok with you.
Hey, I am indeed a teenager and I HATE it when people talk like they are texting. I can understand that, though I don't do it, in IM, but on message boards? There's no rush.
That Idiocracy movie looks reaaaaaaallly stupid. I may have to rent it.

ForgivenForSure: Idiocracy is worth the watch, stupid or not! It was completely stupid, but watchable at the same time!
Also, I don't shorten my words when using instant messaging programs, and I just tell people who do that I don't understand them, because I don't talk that way - generally it encourages them to use real words!
