Saving Reviews

This point has been gone over so many times but I think there is a solution. Much like with tags when you click on it is a tiny help section underneath it:

"Use tags to describe a product e.g. for a movie
Themes heist, drugs, kidnapping, coming of age
Genre drama, parody, sci-fi, comedy
Locations paris, submarine, new york"

When you click on 'Post a Review' there should be a little box saying what a review should include. A small list I came up with of handy questions you can answer when engaging a media text:

"How did you discover the product?"
"Why did you decide to watch/play/read it?"
"A brief synopsis."
"What you liked about it?"
"What you hated about it?"
"Comparisons with other products of that type or genre."

I just feel it helps with the younger members or people who want easy points who need the guidance to make a decent review. I could go on about a word-count limit but I feel a 'Tutorial' will do the reviews section more justice.

i really like your suggestion. maybe some form would be helpful, like on some review-sites where you have to fill in certain data like

graphics
gameplay
music
story
etc.

so reviews like "i liked it!!!111" should be reduced to a minimum.

Headings like that, although easy, still give people the lazy option of writing one sentence.

"The graphics were outstanding." "I enjoyed the gameplay." "Music was 'tastic!" "The story lacked anything interesting."

Surely we should be encouraging people to express themselves with words and paragraphs as opposed to an easy sentence. It should be more about the written review as opposed individual ratings out of 10 for those said points on the game.

Thanks for your support though Bael.

review antagonist style:

"internet", "because it rocks", "it's awesome!", "everything", "nothing", "it has no competition"

:). i don't want to offend you or make my suggestion any better, i just wanted to demonstrate that there is no foolproof system that would filter ALL morons ;). but i think things like some clue what would be prefered in a review can't be wrong. but, to minimize even more lazy asses, why not implementing something like your suggested
"clues" and a minimum word count?

Fairplay but I've seen too many review sites that use the 'Graphics/gameplay/blah out of 10 method' which never provides a decent description of why the graphics or whatever are good/bad.

I put forward questions whereas you put forward concepts. Maybe a friendly mixture of the two could work. Just have to wait for Tom to take notice now.

I honestly don't think providing a list of questions helps... because it doesn't seem to with the tags. You're more likely to get something like this:

My friends brought the movie over and we watched it because there was nothing else to do. It's about this guy who meets this girl and totally falls in love with her. I liked the actor because he's really hot and it was funny. I didn't like the sister because she had a bad haircut. This movie was awesome and is way better than other movies like this.

There. I answered all the questions but the review could certainly pertain to absolutely anything and really isn't helpful at all.

Personally, I don't care why people chose to watch a movie or how they came across it, unless it's pertinent to other things they might reference in the review.

To top it off... I think people here are getting really picky and nagging about the reviews way too much. I can understand a small character limit, but I don't thing we need to become fascist about it all. There are other things that need to be improved beforehand and all this review stuff should be at the bottom of the list, if you ask me.

Its not being facist.

As with the Pirate Code, they are more like guidelines to actual rules.
