What has sparked off a trend in groups wanting to do albums full in a live environment? - Much as I like albums and some ARE actually worthy of listening to live in sequence...what really is the point?

Most bands, especially these days, don't even sound worth a damn live. Everything is so studio-processed and packaged. The best live album I ever heard was Queen: Live Killers and the second best was Kiss: Alive II.

I am not certain but maybe people are misunderstanding - I probably did not express it clearly enough. Its where groups have a studio album and then perform it entirely live in sequence/track order . I guess its what their fans want.
I wonder if any artist has just held a concert and played a recording of their studio album and mingled with the fans as if it were some party with the album in the background
For me a LIVE album is just a souvenir of the great time you had at the gig
