Recommend some OLD horror films

I realise that I tend to like modern horror of the the few OLD horror films I have enjoyed - can you recommend similar movies

Oldies I enjoyed

The Last Man On Earth - near faithful adaptation of I Am legend - good atmosphere a bit creepy

The Haunting - the classic 1960s version

damn that cannot be it - I recall being creeped out a bit by old b&w Dracula movies and some 70s Hammer stuff

I need something with creepiness, violence both graphic and implied

Suggestions anyone?

Can't recall how many of them you've checked out, but here's my list of lists of my favorite horror movies split into decades (1930s to 2000s). Everything above the "Purely entertaining but not essential" section are solid recommendations.

very nice list some great posters and NOT the standard ones - I am surprised I still have not seen The Hunger or The Vanishing - Jacobs Ladder too

I have NEVER got around to seeing The Wicker Man...is it worth seeing even if you know the twist ending?
