Recently Promoted Items: Options?

Curious when you're going to be adding an option to change the layout of the homepage, Tom; i.e. giving users the option to personalize what's shown (recently promoted items). I know you made mention of it not too long ago... Any recent progress?

Oh, and by the way, since when did Listal become a pseudo-porn site?

Since it became protocol to stop putting any imagination into custom lists.

I'm more impressed with lists actually dealing with real porno films and showing at least some sort of professionality or knowledge on their history and impact in popular culture than with the "HoTTEST ChiCKS EVARRRR!!!" -lists which in 98 percent of the cases contain pictures of Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendez corrupting the site with unimaginative bullshit.

I've depromoted a couple of the lists from the front page but I don't really like doing it. I really I don't like messing with the stuff people have voted to the front page too much. Then again I don't really want the front page to be full of just pictures of girls, so it's a difficult dilemma.

To be honest I can't remember ever saying I was adding an option to personalize the promoted items (I think I have talked bout about the update stream though), I try to avoid too much personalization because it can potentially make things complicated to code.

In the same way that we follow certain people it would be great to have the option to also block people's work from appearing on your homepage. Let's say you're a member with seven alt accounts, for example, who instantly votes for your stuff to appear on the front page upon publication. I'd like the option to go to their profile and block their promotions from appearing on the front page. They can abuse the site as much as they like after that and I wouldn't care less!

See, I'm not a fan of censorship. I'm really not. So to depromote an item is like censoring it. However, if we were given the option to have only certain things appear on our homepages in the recently promoted items, each member could have more control over what they see and what they don't. I think what Grand Assault mentioned above sounds like the easiest and best idea to accomplish this. By choosing the block option on someone's profile, you should be able to block all content from said user, including their items on the recently promoted stream. I understand, though, that this could make coding a little difficult.

Perhaps it was someone else that had said something about the personalization of the recently promoted items, Tom. Didn't mean to put words in your mouth!

I don't want to do the block content from users because I think it could potentially make the site slower, also I'm not sure it would be the most effective solution because lot of people submit a variety of lists. I'm not sure filtering out entire categories would help either, you could block all person lists but you would be excluding a lot of the most voted lists on here. In terms of blocking mature type content some kind of flagging system like youtube might work.

Today I wanted to make comments on lists I'd already voted on, and since I couldn't search engine them I had to go through all the lists of my friends. It'd be cool if you could sift through your own recent promotions.

Just go to the update feed and click My feed, then click list vote e.g.

pumpkinate.listal.com/feed/type:listvote

I've added a link under my stuff for this now
