Rating items not out yet

Derron 14 years, 7 months ago at Sep 15 3:35 -
There should be some sort of block to rate things that are not out or just rumored/mentioned. As I have been doing going through the game section I found some games that are not out(some are out now so doesn't really matter) or rumored/mentioned and found that very few people have rated them. I can't remember all of the games but I do remember Doom 4(a rumored game to be -link-). I commented on their profiles asking the two people that rated this game politely to get rid of the rating(seems fine) but one replied in a particularly rude manner about how I can't tell him what to do and that its a free world and talking all that smack about free rights. When all I asked in the beginning politely to just get rid of the rating but then turned out in his mind that I was somehow violating his rights(lol lmfao).

So I please ask that there should be a block on rating a game that isn't out yet or rumored/mentioned.

I would be curious to see how Listal handles this problem as it is something that is very common on Netflix, Blockbuster, IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.

Maybe we can get Tom to somehow lock items with a future release date? That'd be my first idea.

That would mean dedicating people to locking items when anything is added (I add at least 20 films a week). Then unlocking items as they became released, also would that be 'shelf date release' thus blocking any demo, beta, pre release of the game? Then your also blocking any source that might have pre-release information.

Just seems that you would be spending quite a bit of man hours on a small population of over zealous voters and potentially excluding members who are more savvy.

LOL, again with a film reference but I have seen plenty of movies years before they ever got a wide release. Helps if you live in a geographical test market.... I know your talking about games... ;)

Oh! I meant that the items would be locked automatically through Tom coding it that way.

Ah... think I get it... but from the first post

but then turned out in his mind that I was somehow violating his rights

With that in mind... wouldn't we need some kind of clearance from the Geneva Convention to block voting for items that do not exist? LOL ;)

Hah! I didn't read that part. Another thing is that I'll sometimes find DVDs that aren't supposed to be out yet in an electronics store, and some people get to play video games at game conventions or see movies in a pre-release screening. For stuff like that, I guess they'll just have to wait. It's not the worst violation of rights there is. You wouldn't edit content into an item that isn't based on any source or knowledge of your own, so you shouldn't rate items that have yet to be released because you have no ground to build from.

I know you were joking, but I just had to comment anyway. =P

Well I think even if you went to a game con to play a game it still wouldn't be considered playing the game because the release will be different(trust me I know). And betas and tests for games and even screenings can't count as experiencing the game as it will be changed in the long run. So I think there shouldn't be any voting on things not released yet and really there shouldn't be any games(or anything else) on Listal that are rumored because its just a rumor and doesn't have an actual release date or release year.
