Quality vs. Quantity

Ok, so this has to be said. What is everyone's opinion about the way the site is expanding in members but really nothing else? I have seen countless members with no collections whatsoever who seem to just have friends, pictures and their email address. Now I admit two of my (real life) friends accounts have barely anything on them (but I'm trying to convince them to add more stuff). This isn't even making progress on the social side of the site, let alone the list side.
I think that the quality of additions should be focussed on more than trying to get lots more people on the site. To Tom I ask if there is any limit to the number of accounts which can be opened per email address? I've seen one double account today, so I'm guessing not. Maybe it should be introduced as one per address so to reduce spam accounts and accidents.
Anyway, maybe this should have been in the Development section, but I guess more people will look at it here...

I've noticed that myself. The sites most useful to those of us with a 'collectors mentality' shall we say. Scope creep is to blame to some extent I think for what you're seeing (or maybe I'm just full of it).
Beyond that I think alot of people who've signed up belong on MySpace or FaceBook or whatever (maybe some already do). Of course more sign-ups mean more people, more eyes, more advertising $$$ (assuming that any of these one-hit wonders return). I'm sure Tom would like to see the site light up like Twitter, and then he could take the buyout from Yahoo, Google, MS, etc... The Web 2.0 pie in the sky success story.
It's his site and he can do as he pleases; if we don't like it we can walk (after saving backups...).

I recently had several friend requests by people who just uploaded a picture (of themselves maybe, maybe not) but haven't added any items to their list nor filled out the profile... all were male and one of them had an extra large dick as avatar. oO Really annoying. ^^ I don't know, maybe it is cause I have "single" as relationship status? But I thought everyone's intelligent enough to know that this site is for listing stuff and finding new friends based on similar tastes and not a "i need a new lover" site...
A site like listal.com is such a great idea and it would be even better if people would use it like it's supposed to be... but what can Tom do? Or me? Or us?
EDIT: I love profiles like this waynestorms.listal.com/ who's registered 2 days, is befriended with 23 users but hasn't listed anything except for 2 tv shows and is the friend of some girl like this: *deleted link myself as it has too much nudity* ... just look through the friends of the user I mentioned.
I mean, sure you can't do much about it but users like this should be deleted. I have no problem with nutidy or porn but that's not what I wanna see on such a site as listal.
EDIT 2: Just saw that there's another topic at the development section... www.listal.com/groups/viewthread/1222/

Its great when people use the site fully and list and rate loads of stuff but I'm not going to remove people who only add pictures or only use this site to contact people. It's possible that some people may come back and add things later.
I personally have accounts on loads of sites which I barely use e.g. I have an account on youtube which is just for saving favorite videos..
I could add filters to only browse members who have listed x number of items. It's not possible to signup with the same email any more, I don't think that was a big problem though.

HEY!! Don't lump me in with any bizarre "Friends" of the guy mentioned above.......with the link. I received a friend request from him this morning, added him...but have yet to ask why.
I added someone else the other day, asked why, and have been trading messages ever since.
I just have a lot to do before I can sit down and try to find out why someone added me as a friend.
2 days isn't an unreasonable amount of time to have almost nothing to show in your collection.
I know when I first joined, I joined then browsed a friend's collection, added a bunch of "wants"...and that was it for perhaps 2-4 days.

i dunno, i guess i dont see the big deal in this.
who cares if people sign up and dont add nothing and don't use the site, or perhaps us it to try to get a date ;) I mean, sure it doesnt help the site, but it doesnt hurt it either to have dormant accounts. maybe they'll come back. at least Tom now has their email address and he can send out a mass email listing new things on listal.com, and perhaps in future they'll return. as long as they're not spamming or harassing other users, i dont see the big deal.

Well said Prelude76 - that makes a lot of sense. The sensible contributors to this site need to drum up more business from their own circles of friends and that would surely improve the quality and sociability. Be happy!

As none of this has affected me personally, it's not been much of a bother. I increase my collection, check the forums and go about my business. What anyone else chooses to do here isn't of much consequence. -shrug-
