Standard punk is pretty dead. There's other stuff now like hardcore.

Some of my favorite bands are punkbands though. The Clash and the Pixies for example.

Yeah, as far as I am aware its been dead for a while. Anyone trying to jump the bandwagon is at least a decade to late if not more? (Isn't Punk from the 80s originally? Wouldn't you have to have been alive and part of it all to be considered Punk?) Anything now is just conforming to a genre to be "cool" which imo is completely against what Punk was about.

First off, no one claiming to be an "authentic" punk would use the term "punkers". That's retarded.

Nor would they slather on an "OI!OI!OI!" at the end of their sentence. Unless you're an actual diehard fan of Street Punk or Oi (impossible), you're a borderline bonehead or you actually are retarded and have no actual understanding of the term (most likely the case).

Also, judging from your music section you haven't the foggiest what punk actually is. So as far as you're concerned, yes, punk is dead.

I never understood punk. Their main thing was being individuals, conform to nothing, be unique, and anarchism. Yet they all wore the same ripped panty hose, the same Sex Pistols shirts, the same colored mohawk haircuts, and same nose piercings. And aside from getting drunk, puking in the streets, and then passing out on the park bench, they never really took the 'Anarchy' theme to the next level.. ya know, by actually TRYING to overthrow the government.

Hurray for individualism & anarchy ;-)

Could you please explain to me what "Punk" really is. What do they usually sing about? What is the speed of the tempo? Do they scream, rap, sing, or talk-sing?
Did the music we listen to today evolve from this?

punk music hmm..i luv music punk is freakin sweet!! i dont think it dead...
Devious Phenomenon 15 years, 6 months ago at Oct 22 1:49 -
if you consider Pop Punk to still be 'Punk Rock' then I suppose I am Punk music wise, as I do like a lot of those bands(311, Rise Against, Bed Religion, Green Day, etc. Etc.)

As for the lifestyle, I am not punk really, maybe a bit of Anarchy in my mind, but very little, nothing strange or anything...

Besides, isn't it retarded to generalize Punkers by Music? Music doesn't really decided what label you are... for the most part

Bah! I did a whole response as to why all the bands that have been mentioned in here pretty much started in the 70s/80s and cant possibly be true Punk anymore because they are blatantly selling out if they are still around, or they disbanded years before people like Melodi were even old enough to know what Punk is. The annoying this is I accidentally deleted it, so you will have to take my word for it that there was evidence backing it up (mainly dates of bands forming and disbanding etc)

Nobody can suddenly now listen to a few bands from 30 years ago and call themselves Punk! You might like "punk music" there are some very cool Punk bands in the world! But you are not a Punk and if you went back in time and met real ones and said "Hey I am a Punk!" they would probably kill you.

Alice in Wonderland/Melodi, its not "Punk H8ing" its "wannabe hating" nobody likes people who want to come running in and say "I'm this specific non conformist genre of person!!!" heck even Emo's got pissed off when kids like you decided you were emo too! Form your own genre if you want to be different, or just forget genres all together and get on with your sorry life!

look, RB6K, i just read your last post. (not sure if youre still posting on this thread) it seems a bit harsh. sure i think most of the punk rock now days is pretty cheesy, but that's because some of the bands assume that punk rock is a specific sound (i.e. loud guitars playing basic power chords to catchy melodies at a moderate to fast tempo) but the punk aesthetic is more about the fact that you, as a punk rocker, have something to say, and there's a certain urgency about saying it. when you go for "te sound" you get the punk rock "cart before the horse," and the music just sounds contrived. i think it's great that kids still listen to the dead kennedys, misfits, ramones, etc... and i think it's only natural to identify yourself with your favorite bands, especially at a young age. so, punk rockers of the world, UNITE (whatever your age).

You missed my point mdklanica, its great they listen to these bands, I said in my post that there are some very good punk bands in the world, but these children are 100% definitely NOT "punk" AT ALL and NEVER will be!! It is not at all possible purely because punk is just a gutted corpse of a genre now. Any band starting out today playing "Punk" music, is doing it purely as an emulation of punk bands they enjoy listening to from decades gone by. Punk bands originally played Punk music because they were part of something. If I started a group now called the RB6Ks and had some completely unique defining qualities which set my group apart from the rest of the world, and we had a message we wanted to impart on everyone, once it all came to an end anyone else calling themselves an RB6K decades later would be a wannabe copycat and thats how it is with these teens pretending to be something they weren't even alive to experience!

If these kids really wanted to be cool they would create a new movement about something worthwhile.
johnny obelisk 15 years, 5 months ago at Nov 16 14:53 -
RB6K, i'm not exactly sure how to respond. do you think punk rock is more about the sound or the attitude? if sound, what IS the sound of the "gutted corpse of a genre?" if attitude, what is your take on it? are you sure that "these children are 100% definitely NOT punk AT ALL and NEVER will be?" i'm a little suspicious of sweeping generalizations. are you talking about specific bands or artists, or just the "children" on Listal?
Moz La Punk 15 years, 5 months ago at Nov 16 15:20 -
Punk was always about the attitude and the revolution, not about the music. Thats why punk music today isn't punk music. I think that's basically what RB6K means.

And it's true. It's not that this is a bad thing or anything.
silent killer 15 years, 5 months ago at Nov 16 20:25 -
So your saying its like how hip-hop can be rap but not the other way around. Or so some people believe. When its really all subjective.

I don't think punx is dead. I meanif youthink about it a=can any music really die? There is awalys going to be someone from somewhere that is going to like some 'diffrent' type of music. Whether it's punx or not I coulden't really say.

**Sigh**

Punk is dead. Only people who think they know what punk was think it is still alive today. People who were punks when punk was alive, are now middle/old aged men and women who look washed out (or they are dead) My generation, and your generation for anyone born in the 90s/00's are to young to even try and be punk, the world is not the same, there isn't a band out today who isn't merely copying some idea of what a punk band should sound like to try and sell records, or make tribute to their predecessors. Theres no one out there singing for a cause worth singing for. If a band came out that sounded different they wouldn't be classed as a punk band, if they sound the same its because they are copying a concept. Its a catch 22 and that is why Punk is dead. Once its originality died, it did too.

I refer back to my previous post where I said if I invented the genre RB6K it would only be alive as long as the original mythos behind it existed. Once my message died, or my songs meanings wavered there would be nothing but memories. If some people 30 years later want to listen to those memories then great, but they can't then say "Hey we are listening to the rb6k music which makes us rb6kers!" thats like me saying "I listen to African tribal music so I am an african tribesman!!" its just not true no matter how much you want it to be, you are just sheep.

The best advice is to stop trying to find somewhere to fit, and do something yourself. Even being a fucking misfit is so saturated with conformists its impossible to be unique now days so why don't people try harder?

I'm pretty hypocritical there I imagine, but I don't really think about what I am considered to be, I used to like everyone else when I was younger but I imagine as you go on you care less. I would be more proud of myself if I could look back at college or school and say I created my own image, my own ways and my own self instead.
silent killer 15 years ago at Apr 24 10:17 -
Being a sheep ain't so bad. I don't think. Not conforming has its bad sides too. I experienced quite a few negative side-effects in my school days. Although that probably had more to do with me not just understanding people my own age. Everyone was just so goddamn stupid. Nobody was thinking with their brains, and I couldn't figure out why.

Speaking of originality... Way to go with the copying and pasting of MDK's response further up top (and even included in my response to his).

Don't join the discussion if you haven't a clue as to what's being discussed.
