Problem w/ Image in Manual Add

Purple Dragon 18 years, 1 month ago at Mar 20 7:53 -
Okay, I'm feeling especially stupid at the moment because I'm sure there's a simple answer to this question. I'm trying to do a manual add CD and it keeps giving me an error message regarding the image. Here's what it says: ERROR : Image type was not jpeg! (You uploaded : image/pjpeg) So, what now? As far as my computer and PSP are concerned the image IS a jpeg. Is there any way to fix this so I can continue with my upload? Thanks!

Try opening the image in Paint. If it loads successfully then save it specifically as 'JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg, *.jpeg)' - ('File', 'Save As', 'Save As Type'). Once it's saved, try adding the cd with the image again.

No, that doesn't seem to work either. The image opened fine in Paint, so I went to Save As and then adjusted the Save As Type to look like this: JPEG(*.JPG,*.JPEG,*.JPE,*.JFIF) Then I hit the Save button and tried to upload it to Listal again & got the exact same message as before. So, next, I hopped onto Google to figure out what a pjpeg actually IS. I don't know a great deal about computer programming, but it looks to me like jpegs and pjpegs are exactly the same thing. The only difference has something to do with MIME, which I know zilch about.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something else I can try to make this work properly?

Hmmm...
Okay, try this. If the file's extension isn't 'jpg' rename it to '.jpg' (something that looks like: my_picture.jpg) and try adding it.

If that doesn't work try downloading a program called Irfan View, it's a image viewer. You can find it at: www.irfanview.net/. Once you've got it installed, open it in irfan view. On the toolbar at the top you'll see a blue 'i' in a red circle. Pressing that button will bring up an image properties box. Fourth down is the compression field, if that file really is jpeg it should say something like: 'JPEG, progressive'.

If it doesn't say that save it as a jpeg file and try adding it again.

If it does then click on 'Image, Resize/Resample' on the menu, you'll see a Resize/Resample image pop-up window. On the upper right you'll see a button that says 'Half', press it. You're image is now half the size that it was. Save it under a new name and try adding it.

If you've got the cd you can also try re-scanning the cover.

I had really high hopes for this because when I opened up the program it had lots of options for saving that PSP doesn't have regarding jpegs. However, I still had no luck. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Here's some screencaps of what I've done so far:

The image w/ info before any alterations:
home.att.net/~animeaddict/listal/before_alterations.jpg

The image after alterations, while saving:
home.att.net/~animeaddict/listal/saving.jpg

The image w/info after alterations and saving:
home.att.net/~animeaddict/listal/properties.jpg

Next I came to Listal and entered all my CD's info, like so:
home.att.net/~animeaddict/listal/entry-before.jpg

And here's the error I received after clicking on the button that says "Add product to owned":
home.att.net/~animeaddict/listal/entry-after.jpg

I have to admit, I'm completely at a loss here, so thank you very much for your help in figuring this out! :) Also, I'd rescan the covers, but I'm not sure what good it would do, since my computer would still be saving them as the same type of jpeg as all the other times. :(

When you say 'for saving that PSP doesn't have regarding jpegs.' are you refering to a playstation portable? Ah, yes... I did a little googling...are you using the PSP Media Manager for scanning (will it do that)? If you are that might be what is causing the problem. Sony software doesn't always play nice. If not, what software are you using for scanning?

Also, if you're using IE to add, try using firefox instead and vice-versa; Opera too if necessary.

Another thing you could try. Rename the file to just one word, fire.jpg for example, the dashes probably aren't the problem, but you never know (it gets converted/renamed when you upload it anyway).

It is possible that this could be a server/application issue on the listal side, though I'd be hard pressed to say why only you are having this problem, which makes it pretty unlikely.

Whoops! Sorry, no, PSP stands for Paint Shop Pro. I wasn't even thinking about the fact that a playstation is sometime called the same thing. *sweatdrop*

Anyway, I got it to work! YAY! It figures that it would be something as simple as changing browsers. *rolls eyes* LOL! Netscape uploads the image just fine. Thanks again for all of your help! :D

I had the same problem in the past so I just gave up on adding the image.

Ah, yeah, I thought about that. . . but showing off my collection isn't nearly as fun without images. ;-) I'm really glad it was only a browser issue; I was about to drive myself crazy trying to figure out the problem.

Which browser were you using that caused the error and can you send me the image you were trying to add : tom at listal.com

Well, the problem hasn't been fixed yet, cos I've tried adding manually but it still gave me the error. I did some looking up and came across some info.

the upload image function works properly when using Firefox, but fails with the pjpeg problem when using IE. The reason is IE treats the mime-type of all JPEG files as image/pjpeg instead of image/jpeg that all other browsers use.

So perhaps just allowing the image/pjpeg mime-type for image upload would solve this..
