Problem with special language characters

I've convinced my dad and brothers to start using listal, but they have a lot of Czech films.

As you can see from a sample of czech films:

Listal has issues in the MOVIE NAME for letter 'a' with a forward accent above it: á

Yet in the people's names, that character shows up ok.

Could you take a look at that, Tom? So many movies in Czech language use that special characters, and right now, a czech movie colleciton looks like a big '?' mess.

edit: as you can see from first movie list, its also an issue with letter: í

doesnt seem to be limited to czech characheters. All the special french characters (and probabaly other languages) have the titles names replaced with tons of '?', yet those same characters work just fine for people's names.

I know I've seen quite a few pages with problems such as this. Sometimes it is only in the address bar (and the title of the page) for example:

I can't seem to find any others at the moment though... I'll add them here if I find them.

I changed the page output type and it seems to be good now.

Technical stuff :

I'm confused about the character issues, I tried setting mysql column type to utf8 and the browser to utf8. Analysing the titles which have special characters shows that they are stored as UTF8 yet do not display right when the browser is set to UTF8, strange...

So I am switching it back to default for now, although I'm sure thats going to effect some other things.

seems to be working like a charm now for czech characters, but i'd also bet it might probably break some other language's characters. Microsoft doesnt make it easy, do they?
