Problem with cast in alphabetically-listed movies

Maybe we need to add some sort of way to edit cast of movies, or just import in the FULL cast from IMDB. Alphabetically-listed cast such as Sin City causes a big problem for Listal:

www.listal.com/viewproduct/movies/25628

The problem is the alphabetical cast ends at letter 'G' for this particular film, so almost all of the top, most important characters, are missing: Brittany Murphy, Bruce Willis, Elijah Woods, Clive Owen, Jaime King, Michael Madsen, Josh Hartnett, Mickey Rourke, even Nick Stahl, the guy who played the 'yellow bastard'.

Its more of the movie's problem for listing by alphabet, and also IMDB's fault for not filtering out the cast properly, but we need to figure out a way to address such issues in Listal. Maybe if someone notices a problem with a movie's cast, give them temporary access to edit out the cast list to what they feel is approriate? Or maybe bite the bullet and do a full cast listing for all movies?

It affects listal in lots of negative ways for search/discovery of actors/movies and for ranking in TOP ACTORS lists, etc. I mean, in this case, some of the actors that are in the movie posters aren't even shown on the cast list. :)

oh, and since we're on the topic, any way to bring in the acotr's character that they played into the movie page? It would save the trouble of going to IMDB, an outside source, just to see who Bruce Willis played in Sin City. and for DVD side of listal, there isnt even an IMDB link so they have to visit Amazon and dig thru their IMDB link to find the characters names.

ideally, the ability to fully fine-tune the cast might be very nice. Who cares who played 'Policeman number 3' and had one line in a movie, or some famous actor that has a tiny cameo in a film. If we let listal members complete wiki-like access to edit movie info, that would be something really special.

The Matrix sequels are even worse:

Reloaded ends at letter 'B' alphabetically, so lots are missing, include Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving.

I noticed this and pointed it out in a thread about with My First Mister and Memoirs of a Geisha, but they seem to have been fixed since then...

dang. The Lord of the Rings trilogy also ommit Viggo Mortenssen and Ian McKlellan (Gandalf the Grey) from the cast list because of IMDB's alpahbetically sorted mess.

For Viggo, it probably makes a difference of him being on the first page of Top Actors, vs page 35 or so where I found him at. LOL

Any ideas on how to fix this, Tom? I know its not a hot-priority bug, but it does affect the actor/movie discovery aspect of the site, where you click on an actor and see what else's he's been in, etc..

I've noticed this before, the matrix movies are the worst examples, I think imdb just takes the credited cast order which is mostly in importance order but sometimes in alphabetical or order of appearance.

I will allow editing eventually but I have to make sure the imdb updates do not overwrite this while still updating fields that still haven't been manually edited.

about IMDB updates, is that done on a weekly or monthly basis? Just wondering, as there's quite a few movies with 0.0/10 IMDB rating, yet when you click on the IMDB link, you then see the real value. This applies to many of the new releases.

I did a full update of all imdb entries about a week ago so I'm surprised that that any rating are out of date, at the same time I also added in code to update an entry if someone views it and it hasn't been updated for a month.

Which pages were wrong?

ok, maybe they are fixed now. Since we were talking about IMDB updates, i remembered how i saw lots of 0.0 ratings when i was entering in movies, but i entered the bullk of my movies several weeks ago, so they are probably updated now. I haven't seen any innacuracies in any movies i've look at recently.
