I don't generally make Oscar predictions before December, but... here goes:

1. Lincoln
2. Argo
3. Les Miserables
4. The Life of Pi
5. Silver Linings Playbook
6. The Master
7. Zero Dark Thirty

I feel like there will be 7 nominations this year, but if there are 8, 9, or 10 (ten being extremely doubtful) I'd put the likelihood in this order:

8. The Sessions
9. Beasts of the Southern Wild
10. Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Oddly enough, I've only seen two of these films as of yet, those being Argo and The Master. I'll be watching The Life of Pi very soon. And I'll probably get around to Les Miserables (which is my early call for Best Picture Winner, btw). The rest I don't have much interest in.

@ Xanadon't, Zero Dark Thirty will be releasing in Jan' 2013, so I think it will not count in this year nominiations.
Xanadon't 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 29 8:33 -
Ah, I see that indeed its wide-release date was pushed back to January. However it is still opening in L.A. (and New York) on December 19th. To be eligible for the Academy Awards a feature film need only screen somewhere in Los Angeles County before January 1st and play for at least 7 consecutive days, beginning before midnight on Dec. 31st.

Now it could be argued that the lack of a wide-release and hence to some degree less wide-press around the time that most all other movies are getting buzz and have been seen by audiences/critics across the country could have a negative effect on its chances. I'm not sure how I feel about that just yet, so I think I'll leave my picks alone for the time being.
Xanadon't 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 29 8:34 -
Oh, and since two of you now have picked the Dark Knight rises to get a nomination, I'm wondering why you think the Academy is suddenly going to become keen on Nolan.

Honestly, I just picked some films that came to my head and seeing as The Dark Knight Rises is my favourite film of the year, I just mentioned it. I do think there are some slight chances, though. Which is mostly because he got completely ignored with The Dark Knight, which is definitely one of the reasons the poll of nominated films got increased. The Academy might want to "save" themselves by giving it a nomination, even if it will never ever win. (Shamefully :P)
Xanadon't 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 29 12:23 -
That's some pretty sound reasoning, actually. It also occurred to me that the Academy waited for The Return of the King to recognize the LOTR trilogy. Possibly we'll see the same thing happen with Batman trilogy.
khan amir 11 years, 5 months ago at Dec 1 7:29 -
Well, "The Dark Knight Rises" may get nomination in visual effects & cinematography, while may not in best film.

I saw Argo last week, it is very good and looking forward to watch Lincoln, rushes and trailers are quit powerful, so these two would be strong front runner and with the inclusion of Zero Dark Thirty, the trilogy is there.

According to my list : www.listal.com/list/possible-oscar-winners-2013
It would look like this

1. The master
2. Anna Karenina
3. Lincoln
4. Inside Llewyn David
5. Django unchained
6. The hobbit part 1
7. The Dark Knight Rises
8. Les Misérables
9. Argo
10. Zero Dark Thirty

(The Great Gatsby was spot n. 9 but after my list was made its release was pushed back for 6 months)

And I made this list in March 2012! Not bad, ain't it?

If I would redo this list, it would look like this now :

1. Lincoln
2. Les Misérables
3. Argo
4. Life of pi
5. Silver Linings playbook (which was also on my previous but on spot 19)
6. Zero Dark thirty
7. The master
8. The hobbit part 1
9. Django Unchained
10. Anna Karenina

Xanadon't 11 years, 5 months ago at Dec 3 9:12 -
I'd say that second list looks nearly on the money, with maybe one or two exceptions. I don't see The Hobbit getting a best picture nod, even if it does perform well with audiences or critics, for no other reason than the fact that it's a "part one". I also think Anna Karenina is something of a long shot. Not only has it received VERY mixed reviews, but I suspect it's simply not stuffy enough for an Academy that likes their costume-dramas stuffy. Django remains the biggest mystery... I don't see it as the type of material that the Academy will be jumping up to recognize. But then again, one can never overstate the "Weinstein" factor, so we'll see. And of course the fact that we never know just how many nominations there will be makes things trickier to predict.

Anyways, 9 months out and you've got about as likely a list as any. How about giving us your official December predictions?
johanlefourbe 11 years, 5 months ago at Dec 3 11:53 -
I can't believe you remembered this list... Very nice!

Indeed, I have been working on this list for quite some time. I still need to see 'The Hobbit' before publishing though. Stay in touch...

Nice! The oscar nominees have been announced and out of 9 nominees, I had 7 correct.

And probably even more impressive with my list Possible Oscar winners in 2013 ( www.listal.com/list/possible-oscar-winners-2013 ), created in March 2012, I managed to have 5 correct guess!

I find it SO FUCKED UP that The Dark Knight Rises wasn't nominated for one oscar. I mean, even if you didn't like the film, you have to admit the music was WAY better than Lincoln or Argo's(both nominees), and the special effects were WAY better than The Avengers. I thought this movie was actually gonna WIN best picture, but it didn't. The academy is on my fucking hit list!!!
johanlefourbe 11 years, 3 months ago at Jan 11 7:09 -
@thenoah, even though the most of us loved 'The Dark Knight', in spite what the fanboys think, many were not really convincing by 'The Dark Knight Rises'. In this context, it seems pretty reasonable that it didn't get any nomination (as if Nolan would care that his movie would win the award for the best special effects or the best music).
arkkangabriel 11 years, 3 months ago at Jan 13 21:58 -
