For those who don't know, Police Squad! was a television series developed by the creative team behind Airplane! (Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker). It didn't so much parody cop shows as use their elements as a springboard for off-the-wall non-sequiturs, terrible puns, and visual jokes galore. It ran for a whopping 6 episodes before being canned by ABC...reportedly because it made the audience "think too much." The characters from the show (and its star, Leslie Nielson) were later resurrected for The Naked Gun! trilogy of movies.
If you've never seen the show, but are a fan of Airplane!, Top Secret!, The Naked Gun!, Hot Shots!, and the like, you should pick up Police Squad! as well. The preorder price is less than $15 at most online retailers.
