Planet of apes whole franchise viewing help

Hello everyone
I am new to this franchise and it seems like a huge franchise with some originals, reboots and recent sequels/prequels.
I was wondering if I have to watch original 60s and 70s movies or the recent one are enough since one of them is a remake.

DO NOT WATCH THE REMAKE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

It's horrible. Do you want to get the complete experience? Then it's the original film series first, then the TV-show, then the remake and then Rise.

If you want a good idea of what it's about, watch the original first one (still extremely good), then maybe a sequel to that if you really want to, and Rise. Those are the good ones.

And I repeat, do not watch that remake.

I completely agree w/ VierasTalo, if a second opinion should matter to you. The originals are definitely the better course, especially the first two Planet and Beneath.

I disagree :) Personally, it depends on what you like. If you are like me, who tends to.. avoid (most) older Sci-Fi/horror movies because they, compared to movies in the last 15 years, look ridiculous, then I'd say avoid the originals. The 2000-something remake wasn't that great either.

Anyhow, even if you don't mind those things, you should watch the newest movie as well, I'd say it's good. I mean, sure, storywise it might not be as good as original, but the story and age is different, and I've personally enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would.

For me I would do the following...READ the orignal story/novel(la) Monkey Planet by Pierre Boulle then see the original film and then the Burton remake - I would not even bother with the rest tbh --- When you have read the book you will laugh that NO director really did the story properly, though you will probably like the original film as the ending is iconic, the monkey makeup was excellent for its time (and possibly still is) and the book better (well at least more interesting as the background world is far different from the movies and tv series) than the remake

The original film is amazing. I have not seen any of the others or the TV show, but the recently made ones including the remake that features Marky Mark are total garbage.
