Plagiarism

Could you add 'plagiarism' as an option in the drop down menu for when you 'report' a review? On the topic, could you set a precedent and come down hard on people who are ripping off other people's writing, or wikipedia entries and passing it off as their own unsourced work?
Banning any points they get from plagiarised reviews or deleting their material should be adequate.
Seen a lot of it about since Listal began.

I was kind of curious about some 'reviews'.
Seriously, I wonder if people realize that you actually *don't* get a prize for the most points. Perhaps if we tell people that you get a free magical pony that lives in the clouds if your not an selfish cheating plagiarizing jerk.

Oh, and along with removing plagiarized reviews and hopefully at least resetting the person's vote count.
Can we do the same for the people using fake accounts to vote for their own images? Actually I would like to see those images removed, the person can always add them again.

Just use the other option and state the reason/source of the copied review.

Ok, but what about an adequate punishment for plagiarism?

Ahem.

It depends how bad it was but when the review is deleted all points/votes for it are lost. Very few reviews are reported, less than 1 a week.

I think the issue of plagiarism is important. As Grand Assault said,
At the University where I went, anyone caught plagiarising was expelled (dishonourably). All submitted work underwent analysis by a special software program.
With the ability to upload/download almost unrestricted, the outlook for intellectual property looks grim. I know a lot of people who download pirated stuff all the time and they just don't care.
Anyway, to the point . . . without a time-consuming check of every submitted review, how would you know? WIkipedia is only one online source, there are thousands of others, not to mention print media. Depressing really, it devalues genuine work submitted to Listal.

What's the verdict? How do you punish plagiarists on listal.com?

I'm getting annoyed at people posting lists that are clearly copy and pasted from other courses without any sources listed. I think that with lists it can be good to promote already existing internet lists by publishing them here, but if the user does not post the origins, then it is just plagiarism, pure and simple. I recently made this complaint on a list and the teenagers got angery. Boo fricking hoo to them.

@bgm I'm not a Listal expert so the various forms of 'warnings' or censorship are not something I'm fully acquainted with... however...
I think it is a safe bet that there is a only a system to deal with plagiarism and there is a system to deal with unruly behavior that threatens the Listal system or other members directly. Those are two different areas.
As Tom has already sated that plagiarized reviews are removed, I personally am assuming that is the extent of 'punishment'. Unless this activity reaches such epidemic proportions that it threatens the functionality of the site as a whole or someone is reprinting reviews and some type of legal action is being threatened.
I'm sure "what would be grounds for getting a member's account deleted" is a completely different story... breaking terms of use... trying to hack Listal... physically threatening the life of another member... are all quick ways to get the membership boot on most internet sites.
But stupidity... general jerky behavior and the inability to read are actually not valid grounds for account deletion or... my account would have been deleted AGES ago! Ha! No... it is true... oh the number of times I have just been a complete jerk... for shame. Any'who... I'm off for dinner.
