Picture flagging

tartan_skirt 1 year, 4 months ago at Dec 15 20:25 -
I think the site would benefit from a system that allows users to flag an image (on a person's page) as "full body" or otherwise inappropriate for use as a profile picture and disable it from use as the main profile image.
TrekMedic 1 year, 4 months ago at Dec 16 1:34 -
There was a thread here that was trying to address it. I can't find it anymore, so probably deleted. From what I gathered, it can't be done?
tartan_skirt 1 year, 4 months ago at Dec 16 10:53 -
Well something more needs to be done that just saying "don't use full body pictures", because that clearly isn't working. Currently the site looks like the bedroom of a teenage boy and people are aggressive about using particular pictures on some popular profiles. You can't even see half of the people's faces. I don't use half of the site anymore because it looks so bad.

Give users the ability to flag or tag a picture with the following: full body, face obscured, doesn't crop to square, multiple people, landscape orientation, nudity. Anything else that doesn't make it a suitable candidate for use as the main image. Then people can tag images that are being used inappropriately and they can be disabled. If they can't be disabled then stop accounts that use these tagged images from changing the profile picture.

There are so many things that could be done but the mods don't care and just delete any discussion on the topic, so good luck!

Just look at the difference between male and female profile pictures, it's embarrassing: www.listal.com/people/most-rated/2
tartan_skirt 1 year, 4 months ago at Dec 18 12:50 -
It's ridiculous and demeaning. You can change a profile picture but within hours it's back to a very specific scantily clad, full-bodied image, often with the person's face obscured by sunglasses, hair or otherwise. The aggression with which some people are monitoring their favourite profiles is negatively affecting the overall image and usability of the site as a whole.

Currently the main profile image for Emma Watson is one taken from behind in tennis attire, no face visible at all. Ariel Winter's keeps being set to a full-body shot of her lying on an inflatable pizza in a pool, sunglasses obscuring the face.

How do these types of image help to identify a person in their main profile image? I am aware that moderators are working for free and are not responsible for policing this type of abuse. The system needs to be adapted to stop this type of behaviour from ruining the site. Pictures are populated by users, and users can help to make sure that representation is taken seriously.
TrekMedic 1 year, 4 months ago at Dec 19 5:57 -
@tartan_skirt, I 100% agree! I'm fairly certain the person/persons changing the profile pictures to these more spurious images is maliciously acting when doing so. I was ready to post something to try and call them out, specifically because I know the moderators have their hands tied by rules (or a lack thereof) to enforce it, but others, like Humanwave, called attention to it as well.
Let's hope for some changes in 2023?
Humanwave 1 year, 4 months ago at Dec 31 18:35 -
Whatever you did 2 weeks ago seemed to work and led to a real improvement of profile pictures, so thanks for that. However, whoever you banned is now obviously back and ruining everything again, could you kindly re-ban them (for good!)

Thanks!

I have noticed that a lot of female actors have full body pictures with them in little to no clothes as their profile pic as well. I change it to something more appropriate whenever i catch it, but it's usually changed back again pretty fast. It's a little frustrating.
TrekMedic 1 year, 2 months ago at Feb 10 3:34 -
@henrik4075 - yes. It died down late last year, but now it seems to be back again.
Humanwave 1 year, 2 months ago at Feb 10 22:07 -
It's basically that Sal3000 weirdo.
Humanwave 1 year, 2 months ago at Feb 11 21:00 -
Yep, looks like he's ruined the site again. If only something could be done hint hint.
RevelationEques 1 year, 2 months ago at Feb 11 21:08 -
Yeah, he's at it again.
TrekMedic 1 year, 2 months ago at Feb 12 2:52 -
@humanwave, I'm not entirely sure. I have a few hunches, including the one who only posts screenshots of celebs in same-sex kisses.
yolo 1 year, 2 months ago at Feb 15 16:39 -
they should get mods that actually do something , the mods we have now are a joke ....
Pics i posted years ago getting deleted for being duplicate on same pic posted 2 days ago
TrekMedic 1 year, 2 months ago at Feb 15 18:17 -
@yolo - different topic than this thread but, as I just commented on a picture, the standard precedent for picture posting, re: duplicates, has been:

- if a posted picture is of equal size and quality - the first picture stays, all others are deleted
- higher quality AND size versions will trump lower quality and size (i.e. 1000x1000 is better than 300x300)
- cropped or altered versions are deleted
- deliberately oversized or otherwise altered (cropped out or photoshopping of watermarks, etc.) are deleted

He's back again...
Humanwave 1 year, 1 month ago at Mar 11 0:55 -
Why are the moderators so pathetically powerless to ban this guy for good? It's clearly the same freak coming back every two weeks, just get rid of them once and for all.
henrik4075 1 year, 1 month ago at Mar 11 11:41 -
I agree. It's obviously just a sexist troll doing this to annoy everyone else.

There is no way to determine who changes profile photos.
It is possible to see who edits profile information.
henrik4075 1 year, 1 month ago at Mar 11 22:49 -
Maybe that's something that could be implemented? Making it so that people can see who made whatever image the profile photo in the update feed?
TrekMedic 1 year, 1 month ago at Mar 12 17:02 -
@Henrik - do you mean something like "Last edit by Tom on 3/12/23?" I wonder if Tom can add a log note when the pics get changed? If so, I'd love to see it. I've seen several profiles where I made a comment on the inappropriate pic, changed it to something more appropriate, only to see the inappropriate pic pop up again!
henrik4075 1 year, 1 month ago at Mar 12 21:37 -
@TrekMedic Yeah, something like that. Then everyone could see who makes the inappropriate photos the main profile pics on everything. I have even notice it happen with certain movies as well. Someone keeps changing the main photo for Texas Chainsaw 3D from one of the movie poster to this: www.listal.com/viewimage/7173457. That's even worse i feel. It shouldn't be able to make something other than a poster the primary image for a movie at least.
Green.Tissue.Box 1 year, 1 month ago at Mar 13 6:28 -
I feel like a third of my time is spent changing profile pics from bikini shots (and I don't even bother with young female models). I think having a log would be great, I think/hope it's probably only a small few who take enjoyment in torturing us.

It doesn't really matter if we see who changes the pics because anyone
can create fifty thousand phony accounts and continue on...

I stopped updating this years ago:

Hmm. That's a problem. Well another idea could be having member verification? Like you need to be verification in order to edit pages, or at least be a member for a certain time at least? Might help a little bit at least.

Email verification - account permissions - new member limitations -
All that and more has been communicated years ago...

here's some more busy work:

They're back again. A genuine question for the mods - do you have any interaction with Tom at all or has he completely given up on the site? It seems like there hasn't been any graphical user interface upgrades for over FOURTEEN YEARS now and he doesn't answer direct messages. Are you putting in all this effort to clean up a site that the admin doesn't even care about?

I don't understand why he doesn't give you more powers to control the decline here.
henrik4075 1 year ago at Apr 7 20:59 -
It is seriously getting out of control now. I change one profile pick back to something more appropriate and and then it's back to the same full body bikini pick not even five minutes later. It almost feels like bots are doing it at this point. Maybe a final solution has to be that only mods or selected members should be allowed to change the profile picks. It really makes the site look bad for new people visiting.
RevelationEques 1 year ago at Apr 8 4:57 -
I swear, this person doesn't post anything, review anything, or vote for anything, all he does is change pics, that's it, that's all. And by now they're doing it maliciously because they know it messes with people.
pdw55 1 year ago at Apr 8 6:35 -
Just thought I would add my 10 cents worth on the matter, as I too have been changing back a number of profiles again this morning, and been doing so for a few months now. Sometimes you are almost in a fight changing them back three of four times in 5 mins or other times they change a number of hours later. However I think this is something unfortunately we are just going to have to put up with, the Moderators have explained that changing the profile picture to only a certain type is not something that can be done and that although they do ask members to stick to head/shoulders for profiles anything this is not something that can be forced. As such it will be taken advantage of by some people. Also looking at the Spam issues I can understand why that is a far more of a pressing problem for SA-512 and the Moderators. On a separate note they have improved this problem a lot over the months.
One of the things we have to remember whether you like it or not is this site is full of thousands of women in bikinis, be it Fashion models, Glamour models, Victoria Secret models, Playboy models, Page 3 models etc, so it is inevitable that some will choose an inappropriate photo for the Profile. I regularly vote for these type of photos when posted, but will change the profiles of as many of my collection back to the correct type as much as possible. Perhaps a losing battle but at the end of the day its just an irritation and I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
