Percentage of compability

silvio Xavier 17 years, 4 months ago at Dec 20 16:55 -
Hi, I believe that the compability feature isn't implemented in the best way possible, for example I get a case where a person has 20
movies and 14 of them are in my list, and the system shows 95% of compability, but I have 800 movies, in this case 95% are the movies of this person that I have in my list and not the degree of compability with me, following this example another person that has 200 movies but only 100 is in my list too, the compability would show as 50%, when in fact it should be more compatible than the previous case, the calculus should be how much in percentage of this 100 itens from the other person list represents in my list.

In my suggestion the case with 200 movies and 100 in both lists would have 12,5% of compability, and the case with 20 movies and 14 in both lists would have 1,75% of compability.

In the extreme case, in the way it is today if someone have only 2 movies and this movies is in my list too, the system would show 100% of compability, what does not help me in the way to find people that has similar taste, and that could help me to find more stuff I would like.

compatibility should be about how you and your friends have RATED movies, not which movies you own in common. Although I agree, if I have 900+ movies and I get a near 100% match to someone just because they rated 3 movies the same, it's not very useful. I'd rather find someone with 80% of a 600+ collection. So ability to filter compatibility by minimum number of shared items would be nice.

If there's one thing I don't contribute in, it's the ratings. Though they're nice for people who just want to put them in. Tom, how do you get rid of artists' ratings anyhow? I think I can do without that point calculation.

Yes if someone has rated 100 movies that you have rated and it works out the compatibility as 50% then that means they have rated those 100 movies very differently from you.

I actually agree all thse people with 5 items rated the same as you coming out as 99% compatible is a little silly. So I've changed it to need a miniumum 10% items as you have listed to show a match. e.g. listed 100 items people who match on 10 items or above will show.

The reason I left the minimum low before was to give people the maximum number of results. having thought it through I think this new higher minimum is better overall.

nice, I saw the changes right away, so i go check this thread, and you tweaked the results. It looks a lot more accurate now.

My compatibilities were still there even when I got rid of my ratings. I'll check now for the amazing results.

...No! Listal still has my ratings in their system, even though they've been visibly deleted, and therefore the update didn't even effect me! Cursed is the name of transparency!

Your old ratings are not in the system but the old compatibility matches still are. Why did you remove all your ratings anyway? Unfortunatly it's not currently possible to remove artist ratings.

People that remove their ratings should be flogged in the Listal central square. ;)

It was something I did a long time ago! I was young, and stupid, and reckless! Can't you just let it go? And implement a system that allows me to delete my artist ratings? I just put 10/10 on them for now.
