- Thor (the Bifrost wormhole sequence was fantastic, and the Destroyer looked amazing)

Great Rylvan. You shared more categories. Let see how others predicts.

This year only 8 will be nominated for Best Picture instead of the usual 10.

hmm, it means competition would be stiff.lets see

1. Hugo
2. The Tree of Life
3. Moneyball
4. The Artist
5. My Week with Marilyn
6. Midnight in Paris
7. The Descendants
8. War Horse
I'd love to see Drive get a nomination, but I don't see it happening. Moneyball shouldn't even be anywhere in the conversation but, well, the Academy is screwy.

The nominations are in so im gonna give some my personal opinions. First off atleast Oldman got his nomination. Fassbender did not get(WHY?) and Gosling also(WHY?). But hey Clooney did:D. Hurraa for that one. Whereยดs Tom Hardy or Joel Edgerton from Warrior?? Nick Nolte should win but i guess that has Plummer written all over. Malick also could be the winner this year with his Tree of Life. Drive was snubbed as i expected. Well that remains as the Cult movie of this year alredy. It doesnt need any awards or nominations. All nominations considering this looks like a boring Award show coming up. Im gonna root for The Artist just because its black and white and thats about it. Better nominations next time Academy!!!

Bro, I wined about this somewhere but i'm gonna join in with you. WTF is Extremely close doing with the best pics, that movie got shat on by the critics, 47% rotten tomatoes!!!. Why not just pick Drive. Or even Take Shelter, We need to talk about kevin, the girl with the dragon tattoo, 50/50, Martha marcy may marlene or The ides of march. Also Jonah Hiil, ALBERT BROOKS!!!! they snubbed brooks, fassbender, dunst, olsen, swinton and the documentary Senna.
Oscars fail
Oscars fail

Well I've now seen 7 of the 9 Best Picture nominees. And let's face it, that's probably as far as I'll ever get. I just don't have it in me to watch War Horse, and don't see any compelling reason to see Extremely Loud either.
Hugo deserves to win, but won't. The Artist is almost sure to win and I can sort of live with that.

I'm not sure about 'The Artist'... It is a French movie. It has happened before that a British production won the Best picture award but never when that a movie came from another country (exception maybe for 'The Last emperor' but it was an international production, not really specifically from Italy or anywhere else).

This is one of the worst list of nominations I've ever seen. It doesn't surprise me, the academy has been losing its credibility for some time now. In any case, there are still 2 or 3 worthy movies of best picture in there, so let's just see how it goes.
PS: Why didn't they just select 4 nominees like previous years if there weren't enough good picks? I will never understand these guys.

@Veed, just out of curiosity, how many of those selected movies have you actually seen ?

I've only seen The Artist, Moneyball and The Help. I couldn't watch The Tree of Life and Midnight in Paris. I can't bother with any of the other ones. I haven't seen half of them because either I couldn't get into them or am not interested in what's left (except for Hugo, which I'm hoping to be a good one).

@Veed, so you haven't seen 2/3 of the nominees but you think can judge the whole bunch of them ?

Im not judging, Im showing my dislike for this list for the fact that most of the films are uninspiring or fail to pull more interest on my part. Many of past lists were of movies that I wanted to watch, this list is comprised most of movies that fail to look interesting (I couldn't watch 2 of them and I honestly tried).
Im not judging movies I haven't seen, I'm saying the list is bad compared to others, because I'm looking back and drawing a comparison with what I feel had more quality in the bulk.
