The official Sweeney Todd was shit group

The score was diabolical, I couldnt really find the acting, the plot was not developed enough and it was pretty standard HBC and Johnny Depp duo stuff that can be seen in any Tim Burton film. The only good bits had Alan Rickman in!! Oh and Sacha Baron Cohen.
Please stand up and be counted if you are one of those who truely believe that this film was rubbish.
No, 'yeah it was crap' posts please, give me some real feed back, negative words are the best kind of words. Just a few examples of good, 'bad' words.

it was rubbish no dout about that i was really dissapointed when i watched it...it had the worst ending, it was really disgusting , and just plain not a good movie.

Thanks, but please tell why...let the film have it !! Some adjectives and nouns, maybe a couple of verbs!

Ok it makes watching a cow give birth sideways look good it has a shit story line half f it was annoying and repetative like the "Pretty women." parts just befor ehe slits their throats and the ending was so sucky just burning and slitting his own throat? What the hell kind of ending is that? It's like a tragediy by shakespear gone horribly horribly wrong.

Thankyou for that rant, nothing better than a good rant.
I agree with the boring, repetative remark. There was a severe lack of substance to it all. I genuinely think, as good as JD and HBC are, they were miscast.

Yeah :) I was gonna write that in a review but I'd seem like a knob head.

The singing wasn't amazing and made me kinda sleepy to be honest. And all the Tim Burton fashion really wasn't for me to be honest. I liked Sacha Baron Cohen though, he was fun. I wouldn't say the movie was (entire) shit though.
Deleted user

It wasn't an entirely horrible movie, really. It is one of my least favourite Burton films, though.
The singing was a little dull and uninspiring, and JD's character didn't have the edge and menacing quality he should/could have. The colours and atmosphere Burton used were the strong points of the film.
But the film being a complete piece of crap? Nay.
Say, does this thread have anything to do with Mr. Caboose's complete and unconditional love of this film? ;)

Haha, I have to say it did motivate me to make this thread :p. I just think his man crush has dulled his senses a bit...its perfectly acceptable, I only started watching Dr. Who because of the chisled face of David Tennant. But I really wanted Sweeney Todd to be much better than it was and it did make me angry that it didnt meets its potential.
Burton's cinematography is always his strong point though, its just not enough anymore in my opinion.

Wow....
Now let's congratulate the film for taking Best Picture (Comedy or Musical) and Best Actor at the Golden Globes, Best Picture (Horror) at the Saturn Awards and a number of Oscar nominations! Oh, and of course the glowing reviews including a 4-star review from Roger Ebert!

It's a love or hate affair. Some will love it, some will hate it. It's a bit bleak that you're fishing for more people that hate it.
Johnny Depp is an attractive guy. Don't know how anyone can think otherwise. He also has an incredible personality and his modesty knows no bounds. He even offered his private island to Lindsay Lohan! He doesn't have any quibbles with anyone...he's a kind gentleman. You've at least gotta respect that. Combined he's just an amazing bloke.

look i dont know why every time we bring up JD you have to call him "atractive" or "hot" we get it all ready!
no affense but it gets kind of annoying..and the way i see it is you only liked the movie because JD was in it..i agree though some peaple like it and others dont. Yes Jd is a good actor but dous that mean in every movie he plays in is going to be good?

I'm not even sure why you started gushing out love for him randomly. I understand that sure since I fall victim to that sometimes but like whoa. That's intense.
It was an okay film, but as a musical I can't take it seriously. I'd hardly call it perfect.

I loved the movie for several reasons. Go read my review for all the reasons I loved the film.
And I don't love every film Johnny has made. I hated The Astronaut's Wife, I disliked the last two Pirates of the Caribbean films, I didn't overly like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and I wasn't too fond of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
God, I can have my opinions can't I? We're all entitled to one. Through my eyes, Johnny is an amazing human. I know countless people who will agree with me.

I view myself as an amazing human.

all right caboose i geuss your right and i totaly agree on the last 2 caribbean films they were very disappointing..

So, Sweeney Todd isn't shit, because Jonny Depp's a nice guy?

I view myself as an amazing human..
If you want to start an amazing human fight Moz, Im up f'it. I've rescued several wasps from paddeling pools in my time and I try not to tread on snails on a wet day. I think we can see who the real hero is here.

Yeah, wheres da beef Caboose? Gary Linekar is a nice guy, he let me use his Nesquick chocolate milkshake mix when I met him once, but his match of the day commentary is shit. Me and Moz are awesome, guess anything we star in will be an immediate oscar winner..now if we could just find Daniel Day Lewis.
NB Dont get offended by this Caboose btw, its all friendly hazing. I also want to add that I for one am proud of Caboose's man crush. Its the law that you're allowed up to 5 star crushes of the same sex and you can still call yourself straight.
Deleted user

Can't we just let Caboose have his man-crush and be done with this? Honestly, who really and truly gives a crap? I know I don't.
EDIT: posted this before seeing your last post, GemLil.

For me, as a Depp and Burton fan, as well as a fan of the source material, I was quite disappointed. Depp was pretty much the best thing in the film, though I do admit the staging and costuming was lovely as well.
But really? I don't think Burton was the best fit for this film. He has a few blind spots that don't fit well in this story. I would have liked someone who would have played up the Joanna sub-plot better, than turning it into a repetative chorus of her name, which made me never want to hear that song again.
As for the story itself, I have to say, anything good came from the original, and Burton only butchered it.
And while I like Helena Bonham Carter, I do not think she was perfect for this role. I would have rather seen an actress who could belt out those songs, because she is the heart of the story.
And that's my two cents.

Mini-quiz answers from me:
1. D, oh thank God D!
2. D, mmmm... cheese
3. E, Depp kills me and buries me in the garden
4. D, I'm dead so Depp is a necrophiliac
Anyway I just wanted to answer that but still haven't seen the movie so I'll hold my judgment til then.

Hmm. Apparently I'm gay for JD.

Haha same here Chibs! A,A,D,A!
Lemona, Im going to re-read this quiz but replace JD with Catherine Zeta Jones...I've always has a wandering eye for old CZ (H).
I got one, Johnny Depp is half naked, lying flithy and rag torn, tied up in your basement, a shaft of light hits his glistening torso from a window opening. Would you:
a) Put up a 'Demolition in Process' sign (gag stolen from GA)
b) Untie the man and nurse him back to health to go forth and miss out on another oscar.
c) It puts the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again.

I haven't seen the film, but my interest was never really piqued by the trailers or the media frenzy it got. I only heard bad things from my friends too. Not even Helena Bonham Barter's cleavage has sparked any motivation to see it yet!

I've not seen the film, either, but I loved the story, as a kid. From what I've seen and heard of the film, I very much doubt it'd live up to my expectations of it.

I didn't know Sweeney Todd was a book. I'll have to check that out. Books are always better than the movies.
I thought the movie was okay. The plot was kind of off, and the gore was a little excessive, but I couldn't stop watching the movie. There was just something about it that made me keep watching it. It was probably the story line.
Barber has beautiful wife and child.
Evil Judge falls in love with Beautiful Wife
Evil Judge has Barber arrested and takes Beautiful wife and child for his own
Barber comes back to find out his wife is dead and his daughter is living with the Evil Judge.
Baraber wants revenge.
i think you know where this is going...

Not a book, Ashurii. Based on a Broadway play, and those are usually better than the movies as well.

Apparently there was a book en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_String_of_Pearls
but as far as I know the movie was adapted from the musical.

Angela Lansbury comes to mind... wasn't she in the Broadway production of it once upon a time?
My boyfriend often says he'd go gay for Johnny Depp. He's not a bad lookin' fella, and even straight guys go ga-ga over him! Oh, and Thom Yorke. Apparently he's also got a thing for wonky-eyed sentimental types. ;p

Way to go with the spoiler. :/
EDIT: Could you edit your post, missy? Or could a mod delete her post? Surely there are others who haven't yet seen the film and probably wouldn't like to be clued in as to what happens at the end...
