Nintendo DS Vs Sony PSP

ANBU Sasaki 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 22 15:56 -
Hey guys, I wanted to make up a survey of voters.
My question:
Which is better?
Sony Playstation Portable ยฉ (PSP) or Nintendo Double Screen ยฉ (DS) ?
And which would you prefer?
Why would you?
How is the console you like better than the other?
What makes the consoles different?

I'm trying my best to make my grammar understandable.
Thanks for your attention,
Sasaki.

I'd go for the DS, simply because of its touch-screen and awesome game library.

But the PSP has a definite edge in fighting and racing games that work better on a widescreen layout.

The PSP= you can get on the internet, upload music on it, watch movies, and play games, there are not very good games for it.

The DS= a touch screen lets you touch thing in the game which is cool, you have too buy a card to get on the internet,But in overall it has awesome games.

I would have to go with The Nintendo DS.
ANBU Sasaki 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 22 16:22 -
I would rather too, prefer to stay with the DS. It has a good WiFi connection, but the PSP, on my vision, is sort of "more modern" than the DS, having enchanced graphics and options, but the DS has the "standard" style which makes you like it more than the PSP, ain't I right?

Nintendo DS all the way!
Phil 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 22 16:25 -
"Better" is a bit of a relative concept! Depends on what you want/prefer as an individual really. Personally, I've got a DS simply because the games are generally closer to the kind of stuff I enjoy - Zelda is almost worth the purchase on it's own for me.

ANBU Sasaki 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 22 16:32 -
sabaku no deidara, are you wanting to make a board flood again? I do not agree.

@Ina exactly, but they are not as interesting as the original DS games are.

@Phil
Yeah, you're pretty right, it does depend on what you want to choose as an individual.

Well, I'll keep with my DS Forever until it rots out, and I'm gonna get a new one! Because I know, I love DS more than PSP.
Well the PSP looks like a Dualshock PS2 Joystick, with a small Left whatever it's called again.

I own a Nintendo DS but despite its convenience (of sitting right in front of me), I can't for the life of me bring myself to play it! I dobut a PSP would make a difference either.

Handhelds never appealed to me. I had a GameGear in my youth and a GBA but none of them were as good as the Consoles!

I think I'll side with the DS for argument sake. I meant I got one and it has more appealing games than the PSP.

Uhm, Vince, could you explain a bit more, with
WHY you choose it?
@Ash I bet that doesn't go with the topic, does it?

So, anybody else wanting to discuss DS and PSP?

@sasaki im sorry.

i think the DS is better because you can play both gameboy advance AND DS games. you can chat on there with someone 30 feet away, it can be an alarm clock, you get the Nintando DS Browser and you can get online using WiFi(i have that its AWESOME!) and it comes in cool colors (i wanted black but i got pink...but thats ok cuz its still awesome)
ANBU Sasaki 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 22 16:43 -

@ASH

WHAT? 30 FEET AWAY? MAN I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW!
I always chatted with my self -_-

I don't have a PSP, so all I can speak of are the advantages and disadvantages of the Nintendo DS.

With DS games, the touch screen can make or break the experience on occasion. With a game centered around touching, you form a liking for the machine. When it's something that can be achieved by way of simple button-tapping, picking up your pen can be pretty annoying.

It seems as if every single game incorporates the touch-screen in some form or another. I'd much rather more simple platformers be made without such hassle. Of course, I've heard things about the PSP's D-Pad causing similar annoyances for platform gaming.

ds psp kinda stinks
ANBU Sasaki 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 22 16:56 -
That's what it was, D-Pad, thanks Thilian!
So I sort of understood you don't like the DS pretty much, do you?
I got mine on my birthday and a month after that the bulb which shows the battery status (red and green light) broke... now the upper screen is always about to fall apart without holding it properly.

I don't hate the DS. It's just that it seems to be Nintendo's way of hooking everyone that doesn't already play while excluding faithful gamers. There are big series games on there, but I'm just afraid Nintendo's losing focus on the handheld potential of its star series in place of financial scoopers.
ANBU Sasaki 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 22 17:16 -
I agree Thilian, but I bet the DS is one of their best creations.

@Nao Thank you for your comments -_-

UPDATE: Nao, I had mine for 1 1/2 years already, so don't think I broke it in one hour.

If you want a portable media center with some decent games, go with the PSP. It can play video files, and mp3's. the DS has more games and uses the dual screens in innovative ways. That's not even adding in their online capabilities

DS. the PSP's batteries last about half as long as the DS's.
The PSP has better graphics, but interactivity is better.
ANBU Sasaki 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 23 7:45 -
So I see more votes for DS than PSP, so here are the results.

About 90% of the people vote for DS
10% (which is SO little) vote for PSP.
DS WINS! Woohooo!

well since i'm doing the upkeep on both the DS and PSP upcoming games list on here, I noticed there is a ton more DS releases coming out in 2008 vs the PSP. and majority are DS exclusive titles. The PSP, other than the recently released Crisis Core: FF7, God of War: Chains of Olympus, and the new R-Type coming later in 2008, there is nothing big out on the horizon.
Devious Phenomenon 16 years, 1 month ago at Apr 6 2:17 -
I saw Cresis Core! I NEED it, I NEED a PSP(And a Wii cuz thy have a good fire emblem game)

This thread served it's purpose, I think, Yama, SHUT UP FINALLY! We're not talking about Wii. Nor about CC FF VII.
Devious Phenomenon 16 years, 1 month ago at Apr 7 2:53 -
Ummm yeah, we are, CC is one of the reasons why I am saying PSP stupid

And, notice that the wii thing was in PARENTHESIS! THAT means that the thing is off topic and just a train of thought that I continued on with, sheesh!

It just depends on what kind of games you want. I have both and here is my opinion.

The Nintendo DS is the better handheld system. It has more 'short level' games that are perfect for short bursts, ideal for when you are underway. It also has virtally no loading times, which is important if you need a quick fix.

However, the PSP has gained a few games in the past couple of years that are certainly worth playing, only I find myself playing them at home in the comfort of my couch. Games like LocoRoco and Lumines are highly experimental and shouldn't be exluded in any collection.

It's just that I use the DS for its purpose, playing when I'm not at home. There you have it.
ANBU Sasaki 16 years, 1 month ago at Apr 7 12:40 -
I thought about it.... and I say, both handhelders are good. PSP has only few good games though.
PSP Good games (few):
Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core.
Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep.

Noooo! Only ones I can think of.
Devious Phenomenon 16 years, 1 month ago at Apr 7 15:17 -
Basically, DS has the bulk of games that you might like however they are short.
A lot of PSP games are long and have freat graphics, but there are nowhere near as many PSP games.
If your the type that whizzes through challenging games fast, stick with the DS lol

i own both, and both have their advantages and disadvantages.

nintendo ds:

advantages:

+ the games: nintendo exclusives, good strategy games (tocuh screen reigns supreme here), roleplaying games, a ton of (mostly mediocre to bad) casual games, and some really whacky (but brilliant) concept games (nintendogs, elite beat agents, trauma center, dr. kawashima etc.).

+ good battery life
+ touch screen
+ dual screen
+ sturdy
+ cheap hardware

disadvantages:

- expensive games
- few beat-em-ups and sports games
- not many "mature" games
- no WPA support
- not updateable
- no browser
- no media features (without addons)

sony psp:

advantages:

+ updateable
+ strong gpu
+ big screen
+ media center
+ cheap games
+ upgradeable memory via Memory Stick
+ USB connectivity
+ integrated browser
+ good sony exclusives
+ good interaction with PS3
+ can be played via TV (slim version)
+ able to run homebrew software

disadvantages:

- expensive hardware
- rather bulky
- vulnerable to damage
- almost useless analog stick
- UMD
- quite a lot of games have awful load times (because of UMD)
Moz La Punk 16 years, 1 month ago at Apr 7 21:02 -
I don't think graphics are that important, especially not for a handheld, don't you think? I mean, if you want great graphics, it's better to see them on a television screen.

Not only that, but I think the graphics on the PSP are worse. Not because of power (obviously the PSP is more powerful), but the DS has a whole bunch of games with better art direction. 90% of the PSP games are just downscaled console games. Why on earth would I want to play a console game on a handheld system?
