New. Underrated, or Otherwise Unknown Bands

Devious Phenomenon 14 years, 5 months ago at Nov 26 4:40 -
I'll get to this momentarily. But, you know how Last.FM and Pandora honestly suck after you search them for a while? yet you KNOW there's other music out there?
Give us new bands, or underrated ones, give us a small description of their style, and any mainstream music (if any) that is similar.
Don't start blasting off bands EVERYBODY knows. If you hear them on the radio 5 times a day. Shut up about them. If you found them through an obscure music video, and it's good, please share.

I'll be spreading new music too, as the past year or so, I've been going deep deep deep into music genres and finding stuff I liked

Links provided so you can figure out what bands they sound like. I have better things to do with my time.

Jeff the Brotherhood: minimalist grungy/psych/punk. Used to be half of the band Be Your Own Pet.

Screaming Females: hard rock/indie punk. Their singer sometimes makes me think of Grace Slick.

Future of the Left: punk/hardcore-ish. Ex-Mclusky. They'd tell you they sound like Gang of Four.

The Entrance Band: psych/punkish/rock. Paz Lenchantin is their bassist (ex-A Perfect Circle & Zwan)

I've been getting into instrumental neo-soul/funk/afrobeat stuff lately and some of the bands I've really liked:

Menahan Street Band. Their first album from 2008, "Make the Road by Walking," is ridiculously good. It's apparently been sampled by a ton of folks so if you listen to a lot of hip-hop you'll probably recognize some of the melodies or beats. In fact, I guess they went on tour as the Wu-Tang Clan's backing band for a while.

The Budos Band. These guys are the "Dap-Kings" of "Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings", who you've probably seen in one of her million and half appearances she's been making all over the TV lately. They're probably the most polished of the current afrobeat bands out there right now.

Lefties Soul Connection. A dutch funk band. Very tight rhythms here.

The Poets Of Rhythm. German funk. Their album "Practice What You Preach" is very reminiscent-- almost a rip-off, in fact-- of James Brown. And it's funny to hear Germans singing about "funky North Carolina" and grits.

Finally, anything Stanton Moore is involved in is pretty tight. This guy is an AMAZING drummer in the New Orleans style. Check out his solo albums, his work with the semi-famous Galactic, or Garage a Trois.

If you like Indie or Alternative you can check out a new song every day for free with iTunes podcasts from KCRW, KEXP and MPR The Current, among others. There are tons of new (to me, at least) and local bands with varying musical styles, even some non-English speaking or non-US native bands. You get to keep the songs too, which is awesome. I have found a bunch of new favorite artists there.

Getting out from the deepest russian underground, I don't know if you are into noise pop or surf rock, but a band that I have became addicted to recently is Wavves, and they are like a fusion of noise pop and surf rock, even if you are not into that you should check them out:
