New Three Stooges movie

TrekMedic 12 years, 5 months ago at Dec 1 4:12 -
The Farrelly Bros are making a Three Stooges movie placing them in our time and as part of a reality show. The rejects from Jersey Shore are involved, too. I'm going to puke!

After George Lucas and Jar Jar Stinks, I'm not shocked by anything Hollywood produce. But they should stay well away from the greats/classics.

Actually, I've always wondered how big the Stooges are in the U.K.

I've visited the UK several times since 1991 and I don't recall ever seeing them on TV or seeing much of their merchandise for sale.

Have to admit, the Moe impersonation is pretty good. The rest is somewhere between meh and disappointing, though.

Except the nun tits. Those were awesome.

I originally thought it was going to be a bio-pic. I was shocked when I discovered it wasn't and was curious to know how they planned to do it.

The present-day reality show concept sounds totally lame. I would have at least set it in the 30s or 40s. I suppose the 3 are supposed to be the grandchildren of Larry, Moe, and Curly?

My question now is who did they get to star? I know that early in the talks, they had Will Sasso as Curly, Benicio Del Toro as Moe, and Sean Penn as Larry.
I thought that was great casting, but later discovered all 3 dropped out.

I just went on Wikipedia and found out the stars are:

Chris Diamantopoulos - Moe Howard
Sean Hayes - Larry Fine
Will Sasso - Curly Howard

The Farrelly Brothers did the script in 2002 and have been shopping it around ever since. They ran into casting problems as I mentioned in my previous post.
In March 2009, Benicio del Toro was in talks to play the lead role of Moe Howard, but then later dropped out. He was replaced by Chris Diamantopoulos in April 2011. Hank Azaria was also considered for the part.
Sean Penn was already set to play Larry Fine but dropped out to concentrate on his charitable efforts in Haiti. Sean Hayes was chosen to play Larry.
Jim Carrey was set to play Curly Howard and gained 40 pounds for the role but ultimately dropped out because of not wanting to endanger his health gaining 60 to 70 pounds. The role went to Will Sasso.
Johnny Knoxville, Andy Samberg, and Shane Jackson were all on the short list to play Moe, Larry and Curly, respectively.
