Enjoy this one, guys. If you've played any of these games, I'm sure you'll love the humor. ;)

WARNING! Addictive as Crack! Proceed with Caution!

I've kept it at top 10 most addictive, but if you have any suggestions, please add it as comment.

I have both World of Goo and Peggle installed on my home PC. They are both very addictive, but Peggle is in a whole different realm of addiction. Peggle is crack. World of Goo is merely Ecstasy. lol

Updated the list with my personal comments on many of the games. If you were/are an addict of Starcraft, Diablo II, Everquest, Bejeweled or WoW, please share your horror stories please.

the most addictive game i've ever played was Fire Emblem. my friend wanted to know if i'd like to barrow it. i told him sure and he warned me with these exact words: "dude, just so you know, it's gonna eat your soul and you won't ever put it down". well, when i first started playing it(FE8 for the gameboy), i was doing pretty good. then one of my characters died, and i didn't know that they would stay dead. so i had to restart to get the character back. it was hell on earth when i lost a character simply because i would lose one to some stupid little sniper in chapter 28 and the character would just so happen to be one of my favorite characters, so i'd have to completely restart to get them back.
other than that stuff happening, it's a great game.
the other addicting game i played was Fable, the Lost Chapter. wasn't as addicting as FE, but once i started, i was hard pressed to stop playing it.

I would say GTA: San Andreas & IV.

You'll never got bored to drive around the city and do what you want.

Another good game is Test Drive Unlimited, cars what you can only dream for, now they all are like yours in this game. It's best with a game steering wheel. The update pack is amazing...

I will differentiate between 'addictive' game and 'open-ended epic game', such as GTA series or TDU, or all those 70+ hrs RPGs. Those games have so much world to explore that they are a blast in their own right, and you can get lost for days playing it and exploring it, but a game needs a certain 'just one more level' or 'just one more quest' or 'just one more turn' before its truly considered addictive.

Take Tetris, for example. All levels are the same, and the game just speeds up and speeds up til you lose. The thing that makes it addictive is to keep trying to do just a few more lines better next time.

Warcraft II is probably the most addicting game I've ever played. It's a DOS game though so even getting it to play on your computer now is a challenge in itself.

One of my co-workers got hooked on WoW big time. He used to be pleasant guy, talked to him about all gaming stuff. Now, its all 'WoW' this and 'WoW' that. I told him any new game he's looking forward to? 'OMG, the new WoW expansion will be INSANE!!! A Whole New Continent!!!'

*sigh*

friends don't let friends play WoW. I have a free 14-day trial CD of WoW and I will give it to someone I hate.

Never played WoW I just couldn't see that game holding my attention for to long I don't mind online games but I always like a main story to a game. As for Peggle that game is addictive I have both the original Peggle and Peggle Nights on PC even have it on the DS it's my favorite Pop Cap game. Now I'm just waiting for Peggle to come on the UK Playstation Store. Bejeweled is another game I like but I prefer Bejeweled Twist I thought it was more fun then the other Bejeweled games.

Other games I find addictive are Elite Beat Agents and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan on the DS the best rhythm games I've played I usually end up playing them on a night then end up losing track of time. Once I get into a song on those games I can play them on repeat until I get perfect. It's a shame Elite Beat Agents sold poor in the US and EU as another one won't be made.

MMOs are addictive, its part of their design ^^

However, i think most people can keep it on a sane level, there are a few (in comparison to the amount of people that play MMOs) that do spend far to much time with it. The most worrying are people over say... 25-30 that play during all (no cheating, truly ALL the time) their free time.

Kids waste their time one way or another, so i dont see that much danger with them spending time on an MMO. Probably less chance that they will when they are grown up.

I played MMOs during 8 years of my life, and probably 6 years of those were 4-16 hour sessions each day. Good clean fun :)

I haven't had the privilege of playing WoW yet, so it isn't on my radar. But for me probably the most addictive game I may have ever played has to be Phantasy Star Online for Sega Dreamcast. Maybe it was the interesting aspect of playing with fellow gamers hundreds of miles away or the addictive PvE. (Which was sorta uncharted territory at the time for videogame consoles.) Good times, good times.
