New Idea

RJ4 13 years, 6 months ago at Nov 4 17:55 -
So I proposed this in the suggestion spot, and a lot of people seemed to like it and that is to rate an actor for each of his/her movies. Since some actors are bad in some but can be good in another. My other proposal was to add a forum for every movie, maybe as a tab where it shows how many raitings it has.

I like the rating actors per movie idea. I don't know about a forum for every movie - it sounds like what you're describing is already present in the ratings scan on each movie's page.

Well what about for movies like Inception, and Requeium for a dream, movies that people want to talk about. I think a forum for each would be nice, like IMDB has

I like the idea of rating performances but I wonder how many people would use it.

I like the idea of rating performances but I wonder how many people would use it.

The use I see is to fans of the actor--to decide which of a large number of movies they've been in to see. And for that, a large data set of ratings wouldn't be required. You just want to know when viewing an actor's credits "What did other fans of this actor think of this movie? I want to see the ones where both the performance was good and the movie was good, then work my way down to the ones where only the performance was good if I'm still interested." Even if there were only one performance rating, you'd attach some significance to that, as a fellow fan.

On the actor pages, there could be a Fan Favorites tab to the right of the Top Rated tab. (And you could put next to each movie there the movie's number on the Top Rated tab. If it were #5 on the Fan Favorite tab and #50 on the Top Rated tab, you might move that one way down on your to-see list or read reviews carefully.)

The name might imply the sort order there only took into account the votes of fans, but it could count all ratings, just with weight. The ratings of users who haven't bothered to rate the actor overall get no weight. The ratings of users who give the actor a low rating get a low weight unless its a positive rating. i.e. "I hate this actor, but I have to admit they did a good job in this particular movie." Ratings of fans of the actor get a high weight (more so if they've favorited them). Maybe the lower their rating, the higher its weight. i.e. "I'm a fan of this actor and have liked all of their performances except this one." And the absence of a performance rating needn't lower the weight--you might just assume from the fan's rating of the actor that they liked all their performances unless they indicated otherwise.

There could also be a place to indicate "cameo" when the role is so insignificant its not really fair to rate it.
