New design/homepage/edit profile layout!

Added a lot of new stuff today.

New homepage - Wanted to make it a lot simpler while still giving new people quick links to get started with the site, still working on this in other areas.

New header design - Just a small change to make it look better.

New edit profile option - The old profile didn't really say much about the persons movie/music (etc) tastes, I redesigned it to include a summary each section and a clear link to the full section. I have added the ability to rearrange profile layouts with a drag and drop interface, change background colors.

I can see there can be some disadvantages in allowing people to edit the layout, unreadable profiles or ugly profiles (thats subjective of course) but I feel the advantage out weighs that in giving people some creative freedom and I think it makes it more interesting seeing what people have done.

Custom styles - I will probably allow the creating of custom styles in the future and also add more default styles and backgrounds.

Disable customization - I will also add this option in the future (layouts will not be affected)

Edit - Some things in Internet explorer in particular are slightly wrong, working on fixing the main problems now.

Personally I think it's a great improvement! The colours are much better.

A couple of small things:
The main and profile pages have a horizontal scroll bar for some reason.
The right side of my profile page is longer than the right and it unbalances it somewhat, and if comments are all visible that will make it even more so.
My mini profile picture at the right top corner overlaps slightly with the "Mine" search button.
Some of my similar members percentages aren't visible because they are covered by others and they go off the side.

Very cool layout features Tom.

I just hope other users on this site don't turn this into another Myspace and litter their pages with repulsive repeating backgrounds of Hello Kitty. Maybe if it starts to get ugly we could have a couple "clean" options for backgrounds choices instead of allowing any image to be set as a background? Just a thought.

I toyed around a bit with the new layout features and I noticed a couple things that you may still be working on:

- Can't change the color of the "profilemain" module, it stays yellow no matter what. Not sure that was intentional so it could stand out more.

- The text in the profilemain module seems to having problems being hidden or "White" out, it was actually having problems before today's update but I thought I'd bring it up.

- My Groups module doesn't show up in my "public" profile view

- The Movies, Music and Games tabs have blue text while the rest of the tabs show normal white text on the tabs

Lastly, something I've wanted ever since I joined the site is to have the avatar icon on the top right of our screen bring us to our "public view" profile page rather than the "edit page". I find myself having to make 2-3 clicks every time I want to see my "public" profile view. Not a huge deal but does anyone else agree that it would make more sense to change the function of the icon from the edit feature to view profile?

Awesome. I hit refresh on my page and was greeted by a new and fresh layout. I like it.

I don't see my groups in the "public" view either.

Other than that, I'm still looking around and getting used to it. Looking forward to what's next too, whether it's a big or small thing...

1] I'm using Firefox, and colour changes seem to work as does rearranging stuff, but 'profile main' rarely changes colour.

2] I cant seem to find a way to put 'favourite authors' and 'actors' anywhere on my profile page.

3] Also, will there be a way for us to change the 'my top 3' and 'my top 5 rated' as it seems pretty random at the moment.

4] I've somehow ended up with two identical 'lists'. (oO)

They are part of 'dvds', 'music' and 'movies' modules, though I might separate these into their own modules

Possibly, or maybe I should use the favorite list (if exists) here.

I think having the option to choose 3/5 items or having a pre-designed list in 'my top 3/5' would be good.

Unfortunately for me, profilemain refuses to change from its default 'roundedyellow' colour, I'll just wait it out though.

For some reason the scroll bar on the bottom of the profile and main page is still there. (On IE.)

Another bug:

I can't search through my own items. Clicking on "mine" just brings up the same as "all".

EDIT: Oh, and my profilemain won't change colour either, but I'm not worrying too much about it for now. :P

If you are going to let us specify our own stylesheets, may I suggest moving away from a table based layout?

I'm having one or two issues with changing my layout. Like others my profilemain isn't changing style. Also the roundedblue2 style makes a really abrupt color change from bright blue to a really pale blue that none of the other styles are doing.

'profilemain' is finally doing what I want it to (change colour!), so thats cool. I notice the default 'recently added' list isnt at the bottom of the page anymore, thats a shame, I preferred that to the module option.

Yep I fixed that now! I removed the recently added because it didn't make sense to have that forced when the rest is customizable.

I have now changed the style of it to fit better in the narrow or wide column.

Yep, that makes sense I guess.

Funny thing: I have this cool background image that kind of fitted well on my profile page, and then I got a new 20" widescreen monitor and now the image is basically tiled and my page doesnt look so cool anymore, lol. Is there any way for the profile page (or background image at least) to look the same on any size monitor or is that not possible? Any way to make the image 'centered' for the profile no matter what resolution you're viewing the page with? Hope I explained that right.

Change the background position to centered, it's next to the fixed option.

Ah, thanks for the tip! Ok, another question! I have the 'recently added' module at the bottom left of my screen and currently its listing items vertically. Is there a way to make it list horizontally, like it was before the module feature?
