Best way to find gems is to boost your find magic items stat. There are two ways to boost that stat. Put on any ring, amulet, etc.. that gives a bonus and gem your amour with topaz (the higher the grade the better, naturally). As a bonus you'll also find a lot more rejuvies & other potions.
