Read Stephan King books. No, it doesnt involve mythical creatures, but his books are good. If you dont want to read a really long book, he does have a few books full of short stories such as Just After Sunset, which I really liked. Also, Wicked is an excellent book based off of The Wizard of Oz.

Were-Wolf books:
The Compleat Werewolf by Anthony Boucher
Lila the werewolf by Peter S. Beagle
Shadow Of The Beast by Margaret L. Carter
The Orphan by Robert Stallman
U'm sure someone on here has a book list of mythical creatures. if not make your own.

If you haven't read them the House of Night series has a really interesting vampire mythology but they aren't too terribly well written. The same would be true of the Vampire Academy books. Not knowing your age, if you are older Bloodring by Faith Hunter is a book about a mage in a world when seraphs rule the Earth. It was interesting but designed for an older audience.
If you are interested in things with Magic as well I would recommend Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn. It is my favorite book and City of Bones is my number 2 just to let you know my taste.
Also, there's this book I read recently called Eyes like Stars that was just really neat and different, but not about vampires/werewolves. I have a favorite books list and would recommend anything on it.

The Reformed Vampire Support Group, and The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group, by Catherine Jinks.
The Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn.
The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs.
All are about werewolves. I love werewolves. Vamps can suck themselves. :P
