Movie Parodies

I love to watch a GOOD film parody. I'm not talking Epic Movie here; well written parodies that don't rely on fart gags.

Thats one of my favourites, a parody of Hitchcock's 'The Birds'. Does anyone know anymore? I'd love to find some and maybe get a list together.

something like, say, 'Young Frankenstein'? 'Space Balls'? 'Blazing Saddles'?

Yes exactly, I love Young Frankenstein. I'm sure there is a budding list in there somewhere; but I've not got enough yet. I suppose I'd have to put the 'Epic Movie', 'Scarey Movies' and 'Not Another Teen Movie' in.

I'll extend this to ones that are not only individual movie parodies but genre parodies aswell.

I've heard nothing but amazing things about The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. It's supposed to be a parody of old 50s b-movies. I own the DVD, and intend to watch it at least by next spring break.

My faves would be:
Top Secret! (parodies a whole bunch of films, mostly Elvis musicals & spy thrillers.)
Eagle Shooting Heroes (HK parody of kung fu adventure epics)
Young Frankenstein
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (parodies film noir, including footage from classic films)
My Favorite Brunette (early noir spoof)
Airplane! (d'uh)
Life of Brian, Monty Python & The Holy Grail (d'uh)

Eagerly anticipating to see these:
Murder by Death (detective films)
From Beijing With Love (Stephen Chow's take on Bond films)
My Favorite Blonde (spy films) + a whole bunch of "Road" movies from Bing Crosby/Bob Hope like "Road to Morocco" (I guess they're spoofs?)

Honorary mention to:
1941 (WW II films)
Spies like us (Spy films)
High Anxiety (Mel Brooks pays respects to Hitchcock...)
Blazing Saddles (...& to westerns)

plรครคh, pretty obvious choices

not necessarily. title it 'top parodies' or 'top rated parodies' or 'intelligent parodies' and you can weed you crap like 'Meet the Spartans'

Oh, loved 'Spies like us'. one of best bond-style parodies out there.

Also Naked Gun series are great, but it also throws in gross jokes, so you may have to add in the recent crap-fest of parody films after all.

You know Thillian, I'd never even heard of 'The Lost Skelton of Cadavra', do you know if its on region 2 release? Yeah, Prelude..I'll make it a 'best of' list to avoid those films.

Thanks for that link, I just didnt think of searching 'spoof' although to some extent that will omit, individual paraody scenes and TV...still very helpful.

jgnikkila, again I havn't heard of a few of them and will do my best to look into them. I just forgot how much spoof cinema there was, and how I forgot Airplane?!? I deserve a lashing.

The question is; Is the whole genre just cheating? Is it just easy?

Most certainly it is for the lastest 'Epic movie' and the like.

Thanks everyone...I'll get on making a list then. Hopefully this site will help me improve my abismal memory. Quite a few of those movies are going on my 'want to see' list aswell.

I would still take the old Naked Gun series over any spoof films that come out now. Airplane is a definite classic for me.

It's kind of a shame now that it's all about "How Stupid Can We Get!?" rather than having an actual plotline with gags thrown in.

so true. the new ones are all about 'throwing in as many references as possible' without even thinking if its actually funny.

Here's a trailer for The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. It's definitely not another teen movie.
