Most average movie buyers and Blu Ray.

Does anyone think that it's worth buying a Blu Ray movie than an average DVD for most average people?
We all know the Blu Ray discs can carry a large amount of memory due to its dual layered disc, holding more bonus content about the movie for the viewers that are more interested about the film but a lot of people just watch the movie and leave out the special features.
I already understand why people would get it because of its high quality picture, but shouldn't the other people make their moneys worth by watching its other special content?
Should the most average movie viewer watch their movies on DVD's rather than on Blu Ray? Because most people never watch the special content.

Some of us with the same topic would like to here from other people on what they think.

I'm not getting a Blu-ray player, I really don't want to buy all my favorite movies again. IMHO Blu-ray is just better quality that you're not going to notice and a sh*t-load of bonus features you'll never watch. I mean seriously, why is Casablance on Blu-ray?

I've put off buying any Blu-ray stuff because I don't think there's that much difference in the visuals. Plus, only the more recent movies are filmed in high-def, which means the majority of movies won't benefit from the Blu-ray treatment.

As far as extras go, I rarely watch the extras on regular DVDs so having more of them included doesn't matter to me either. I find that a lot of times the extras change my overall experience of a film, especially alternate scenes/endings, and rarely for the better. Plus, I don't need a bunch of cast & crew members dissecting the entire movie & showing me how they did what they did. It takes all of the fun out of my experience.

That's exactly it Giraffe, most people don't know that about Blu Rays, if you buy Scarface on BluRay, it's still going to look the same like a regular DVD, but maybe a little bit cleaned up so they can try and make it look clear.
Not really worth buying I guess.

Most Blu-rays are a cash grab, re-releasing movies that are already on DVD and at the same time ignoring some movies that have yet to make it to DVD (The Leopard Son) or are only available in those old "flipper" versions (The Man Who Would Be King). Obviously they wouldn't sell. I will say this for Blu-ray though, the content they do contain is incomparable to DVD and after seeing a few Blu-rays of new movies it is a significant step above DVD.

Shaun, I cannot agree with you more. Blu-ray is a significant step up for us in the A/V Club. Personally, I do not own a PS3/Blu-ray player yet, but I a huge fan of this evolution.
