Since there isn't a 'Comics' section, I'll put this here.

There has always been a friendly rivalry between these two titans but then when it comes to opinions on which is better, there is always debate. For those not in the know of the specifics, I'll lay it out for you.

Marvel's Main Creations:
The X-men
Spider-man
The Fantastic Four
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man
Captain America

DC's Main Creations (summed up by the Justice League of America):
Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
The Flash
The Green Lanturn
Aquaman
Martian Manhunter

Which stories do you prefer? Whose got the better array of superheroes and villains? Has anyone read the cross-over novel?
Adam 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 9 19:53 -
I've always been more of DC fan, its whats I grew up with, Crisis on Infinite Earths was the 1st big storyline I ever read. I like Marvel, but only X-Men and some of it other titles. Don't like the new direction of Spiderman, wiping out his marriage just because someone high up in Marvel didn't like him being married is really stupid. I think the heroes are evenly matched, but in a fight I'd go with DC, after all you got Batman

Why though!!??!?!?

You can't just say one word sentences and expect someone to believe you. Anyway can say Yes and No or; A or B! But it takes a real literate and useful person to use words to construct an opinion!

Only come back if you have something expansive to say!

Judging by reviews, you don't know how to write/more than a few words anyway. Aren't you meant to be in High School?

camron probably doesn't even know how to write reviews!

You (Yosho) wrote three reviews about the Blade Trilogy (which is Marvel by the way) which are one sentence each. This is disgraceful. Did you even watch them properly? Now you come into a serious thread with barely anything to contribute.

Having followed DC through most of its highligts, it has my vote, with the story archs and the character crossovers reveals the ingenuity of the writers. With the death of superman being the highest rated graphic novel of recent years along with the infinate crisis series concluding with the most recent one realigning and clarifying the characters backgrounds.

With both lists of Heroes forming groups, I can understand some simularities, but although DC is not uttly superioer it is evidently in front. A few of the characters in the marvel universe I favour, some not on the list, because of stand alone character basis. Some of their characters may be more considered and internal, whereabouts the DCU have a wilder spectrum off world with more considered crossovers. No more clear as the mentioned crisis series in comparison to the marvels 'Civil war' which became disorientating and readers had to play catch up.

The crossover novels never had a overall victor but had an interesting look into the possible outcomes between the individual heroes and villians which asked 'who was better', but was never truley answered. DC as a universe is better with storylines and the handling and timing of the characters, Maybe their reach into the universe is too far and should concentrate on closer to home narratives like some in marvel but still manages to maintain the consistency of scale well. As for the heroes and villians gallery of each just look at the ratio of stupid names to the other.

Superman. They are all alien in this manner which I feel drives them away from my emotional radar. Batman, who is the main human of the DC Universe, is the only member who gets my full respect and is superior to most of Marvel IMO aswell.
The Pioneer 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 9 23:15 -
I consider some of the marvel characters more personally built from scratch and so indeed could be more related to. Its hard to catergorise all DC as alien. a mixture of some freak accidents, 'the Flash' to others like brute strength with charcters depending on their physical extremes, batman/steel through his self made suit. And to argue the off world aspect, more than most have being associated with an alien backstory but only to be in opposite to the human nature of the rest of the characters.

Superman is some say theatrically overboard, with superman not being rich with anxiety and having deeprooted problems unlike batman. They equal each other out to make a decent duo. now amplify that polar opposite aspect to breaking the DC in half from mortals and gods. And having batman with the knowledge to bring down the gods and having the gods being undermined and near destroyed because of their own power is a thrill for all.

I like them both...

X-Men Pwns, especially some of their villains

I don't think DC has very good VIllains

and well, Marvel has Moon Knight and Venom and Ghost Rider

and Luke Cage lolz

but... The Justice League is pretty cool

So I'd say both are equal

but, since Marvel has Deadpool, Sabretooth, Venom, Colossus, Moon Knight, Nightcrawler

so I'm going to have to say Marvel on this one
Devious Phenomenon 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 9 23:19 -
and Yosho, which cool suit? Iron Man features a HUGE variety of suits
Devious Phenomenon 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 9 23:20 -
I Like War Machine, though he isn't exactly Ironman

and that really wierd one he has... that one with the brownish grey armor and the yellow visor and redface

I forgt what hes called lol

DC comics seem to me more mystical and epic, Marvel more personal and modern. They're like two seperate mythologies with their own means of expressing moral truth. I'm glad there are Essential volumes and Marvel comics online, because this mythology hasn't been lost over centuries.
Devious Phenomenon 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 9 23:25 -
lolz, Thilian I'm guessing what your saying is the only reason why most of the teens might know what the Marvel and DC COMICS(Not TVshows) are, is because of Online Comic Scans

Lolz, your probably right

Generally I dislike the whole DC and Marvel comic thing and prefer to read the underground comics but I have been known to enjoy some X-Men occasionally and Wolverine is just so cool, so I suppose Marvel? Then again while I don't read much DC comics in general there are some titles in their Vertigo imprint that I have enjoyed immensely, like Y: The Last Man, for example. Plus DC has what is quite possibly the GREATEST SUPERHERO COMIC IN EXISTENCE, Watchmen. So I suppose DC in that case.
silent killer 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 11 2:00 -
If its just DC vs Marvel then I'd say marvel. If only for Runaways and X-factor. But DC did a very smart thing and bought out a bunch of independent labels. From my point of view, this is DC's strongest advantage. Some of my favorite comics are from Wildstorm and Vertigo. If I were to include their imprints then DC, even though I strongly dislike them. Except Batman; he's freaking hardcore.

Also, I read the last Marvel vs DC crossover whe it first came out. The Superman/Hulk battle was crap. Hulk got blasted through a mountain and that was it. WTF! Granted, that wasn't the strongest iteration of the Hulk but still, he should have atleast put up a decent fight.

When the writers pair up two characters, they should at least give a surrounding story arc and make the fight seem meaningful, and open to debate at that. Otherwise it's just one fan saying 'Alright, here's who would win in a fight between soandso and what'shisnose.' Despite the fact the fan writes scripts for the comics themselves.

I have to question these choices

Marvel:

Spider-man is great, a real tragic hero. Some of the more recent stuff is a bit subjective, but all in all a great character.
The X-Men are alright, but a bit overrated.
The Fantastic Four are just kinda...lame. If it weren't for Doctor Doom and the whole Silver Surfer cross over they would barely be a blip on the radar.
The Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America all suck. The Avengers have their moments and each of those have added something to them, but on their own they're garbage.
Dare Devil and The Punisher Are both pretty good. The Punisher for being a twisted anti-hero who kills without sympathy and Dare Devil for being almost as tortured as Spiderman but much more violent. The series where Matt went to prison was awesome.

DC:

Batman is great, nothing bad to say about him.
Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (and the core) Aquaman all terrible, perticularly Superman. The Flash had his moments, but really should never be more than a secondary character. The Green Arrow was a decent character concept, but really should have stayed more small scale.

Overall I much prefer Marvel to DC, though I'm happy to read any other, smaller companies if they print something of interest. Avatar released Frank Millar's Robocop which I just adored, and IDW publishes my beloved Transformers G1 series. Image and Darkhorse both have their moments, but I never much cared for either.

Civil War was a mess by that in no way gives DC the crown.
Enko 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 27 16:06 -
yes it dose in case you haven't read the last comic of civil war they put the best of both dc and marvel (captian america and batman) against eachother and batman won

Seaworth 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 27 16:57 -
Are we on the same page? Are we talking about the Superhero Registration Act Civil War or the Marvel vs. DC graphic novel?

Because if we are going by that, Marvel won. Out of the 11 featured battles. Marvel won 6 out of 11.
Enko 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 27 17:02 -
i'm talking about when they took all of the marvel super heroes and mashed them up to fight then they did the same for the dc and it came down to Batman and Capitan America as the best of there sides and they went at it over all Batman won (idk which one is that one)

I have that comic. Batman and Cap's fight never actually ended. It seems the two universes began to completely merge sometime during their match.
vanious 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 30 2:54 -
What is your question?

Why choose to highlight characters like Hulk or Aquaman who are practically one-dimensional, or Superman and Ironman who seem to invent new powers just to get out of a plot? If we're trying to determine reasons to pick one of these publishers over the other perhaps you should cite specific storylines instead. I mean, the X-men for instance have a wide enough scope of storylines that they can attract fans from just about any branch of the comic genre, but that all depends on which series you read. Chances are if you read Uncanny X-men you don't read Ultimate X-men. I can't cite a similar example for DC, I don't read enough of them.

As for Civil War, it was a mess, but it did a couple things right. It through the Marvel universe into chaos allowing for an almost unlimited wave of new story lines, and a chance for characters who had gotten stale and disapeared to return anew. They also killed Cap, which in my opinion is a real step forward. I know they'll bring him back, but the fact that his dead for now is progress.

I highlighted them as they are the most reknowned of the Brands. I couldn't expect most people to know the difference between Marvel & DC without mentioning their Star Players. Not everyone keeps up to date on the comics ya see because they just watch the Hollywood films. *rolls eyes*

Hopefully Cap will stay dead. It is such a DC tactic to kill off a character and then replace him straight away with a clone or a brother or an alternate dimension version.

And it's a Marvel niche to pretend to kill characters and later reveal that the one that got off'd is a clone or a brother or an alternate dimension version...or a life-like robot/doombot. If you've been following up on Spiderman the villians are already taking bets on when Cap will come back. Literally taking bets.
silent killer 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 31 1:57 -
cap is dead. An alternate version of cap wouldn't be cap. In most alternate instances he's a Colonel, or incredibly old.
vanious 17 years, 1 month ago at Mar 31 2:04 -
cap is dead. An alternate version of cap wouldn't be cap. In most alternate instances he's a Colonel, or incredibly old.

In the zombie universe he's colonel, that doesn't mean that in all parallel universes he is. He would only be old if he never got frozen, but funny thing about the infinite universe paradox, there could still be a limitless number of universes where he was frozen, was a captain and for some reason got sent to universe 1. With that said, parallel universe cap seems the least likely answer to this conundrum, it's far more likely a cover up. Someone replaced Cap with a clone or a robot or something.
