"Make this the primary/profile image" issues

FartNut666 1 year ago at Jun 24 3:50 -
This button is full of issues.

From what I understand, this button disappears from images that are nsfw and stay for the rest of the images. But often I see completely harmless images not having this button. Like, a picture with a fully clothed person with no sign of vulgarity. At the same time, many borderline inappropriate images like tasteful nudes and all have this button. And recently, many images which I uploaded that include both of these kinds of images have been having these problems. These problems are abused by many users (there is a whole thread on profile images on actresses' pages)

This has been an ongoing issue for a long time now, firstly from what I understand an automated system now decides what can or cant be used for a profile image, and I have commented on a number of occassions on the forum and to the Mods that this system is not fit for purpose. As you have pointed out it allows some inappropriate images, whilst blocks acceptable ones, and I asked if this system could be removed, which of course it has not been. It appears the profile image issue which annoys a number of us as some people keep changing profiles to inappropriate images is not deemed a priority for the Mods. So unfortunately we are stuck with it.

I tried to add this one:

Nothing offensive, right? But I can't use it? I really hope the presence of the rainbow/LGBTQ eye patches aren't the reason,...

@TrekMedic - I wonder if in this case its the amount of bare skin as a percentage of the image that may cause it to be blocked by the useless system.

My experience has been that when you upload an image it's always available as a profile picture right away. I've seen many users upload pictures and change the profile picture at that time. When I see a bikini picture as the profile image I've done that too a few times. At sometime after the upload "something happens" and the permission changes based on the picture ... I think.

@offs - I think you are correct, I have also seen new images which are available to use but then suddenly change to blocked.
