It really depends on how you want to classify the shows and if your talking US market or world market.

I think the longest running TV series in the United States is the National Broadcasting Company's “Meet the Press,” which has been airing since 6 November, 1947.

Gunsmoke was the longest running television show in the world.

But, I could be wrong.

I was going to offer Coronation Street, but 1947 trumps it. 8040+ episodes of absolutely nothing... housewives are easily pleased when it comes to televisual entertainment.
