Logic of Hardcore gamers on sequels

You know it's true

They constantly bash Nintendo for the graphics and making too many sequels, even though all these other series have Nintendo beat with sequels.

I don't know if you can really say if people just eat up sequels without thinking about it....

I mean I can't really say I played the hell out of Mario but I was just kind of done when the series went to 3D for some reason. I have nothing against Mario or Nintendo yet for some reason I'm not just interested. Metroid is my favorite Nintendo franchise (despite recent sins) and Kirby, the less I say the freakin better....

However, speaking of Mario, how many games there are really depends on how you clump the games together. I see the comic you posted only counts the straight edged platformers... but I'm sure some people just lump EVERYTHING Mario to together. That may seem erroneous to some but to others when the numbers add up it is as bad as Mega Man.

Ah, yes Mega Man. I do love the blue bomber, and yes I'll give you or anyone else this one as Capcom HAS hit this the series with the sequel shovel and made the conclusions of SEVERAL of the sub series psychotically unfinished and unfulfilling. Yes, I own almost own all of them (outside the Battle Network and its spinoffs) and I can admit some of these games COMPLETELY suck. Also, despite being a fan and what other fans think and feel I am FINE with Capcom sitting the franchise on the shelf for a while. If they can't produce a game I want (Legends 3) or even make a good game at all they should just leave it alone.

As for the graphics I really don't care about graphics as long as they are good for the respective console they are running on and suit the game. Yes, gamers these days have completely lost themselves in a pointless void where frames per second and resolution seem to mean more than the damn gameplay and that's... sad. I wish we could go back a few generations where this was a non-issue. Hell, I still play my games on an SDTV since the only Hi-Def system I have is a PS3 - everything else is older and is fine with my set.

As for the comic, I don't know if you can only just count original releases however. I think you have to count ports and re-imaginings (like the Donkey Kong Land series on the GB) to a certain degree because these things do wear on the overall proliferation of a given series over time. I mean Square Enix has released Final Fantasy IV around six times and that is... somewhat of a problem as Final Fantasy is pretty overexposed anymore.

However, going back to the main point, I think the constant sequels are wearing on some of the more popular series. The last Call of Duty didn't sell as much as Activision would have liked which sent them looking for any damn excuse to explain it other than the obvious "maybe people are getting sick of the damn game we reskin year after year" and "maybe people realize we're pulling one over on them." You know what excuse they came up with to explain the lower numbers? The launch of the two new consoles! Yeah, sure... that was the cause.

Back to the list, Kid Icarus just shouldn't be on there; Nintendo abandoned it for like fifteen years and it's a poor example of anything. It was practically a new IP at the point the third game came out. Fire Emblem is also a bad example since we didn't get many of those games in the first place and so is Star Fox when Nintendo only made so many of the games (the good ones) themselves. Personally I think Metroid has just the right of releases over the years. While the number of games did increase when Retro was involved wasn't over done.

Additionally, and I hope this is my last point because I've gone on so long, I think the only reason people pick on Nintendo for sequels is that third party developers have abandoned the WiiU. If there were more games for the WiiU first party games would not be the target they currently are. This is pretty much my problem with the WiiU. I'm not the fan of Nintendo's properties that I was in the SNES era... so there isn't much of a reason for me to hang around.

Anyway, as with anything so much of gaming is left up to interpretation that it isn't even funny.

Sales wise, a lot of these games sold. GTA 5 for one made over a billion dollars in less than a week. I didn't think anyone even played those games besides kids that just want to kill people. Those stupid Call of Duty games are the same game over and over and and sold at 60 dollars and of course people eat it up, meanwhile if Nintendo makes a sequel game and it's sold 20 dollars cheaper, they get bashed for it.

But at the same time, they complain about Nintendo over the graphics or "OMG way too many sequels".

People worry about graphics way too much. GTA 5 was nothing but shiny graphics when I sat down and played. It's quantity over quality when you have to rely on "OMG the graphics are so awezzzzummmmeeee duhhhhddddeeee!" to talk about how awesome a game is. That's the main excuse I hear about how why GTA 4 and 5 are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

The Pokemon games have withstood the test of time. Can't say it about all of Nintendo's series, but that one is still selling hardware, and people still play them like mad.

The gaming industry has failed us over the years with DLC rip offs, over priced games, and making them far too easy than they used to be, but the hardcore crowd is the worst.
