Lists of sexy women

Kenji 8 years, 11 months ago at May 31 7:34 -
How come such a high percentage of lists here are of sexy women? I've done some myself, but I wonder why there is not much variety. I guess many people who could do lots of decent lists here on all sorts of subjects might think it's mainly a sexy babe site and so don't bother with it.

I guess you are right, anyway you can filter out the "People" and "Beauty" categories, so to see fewer "babes" on home page "promoted lists".
Go to profile settings and deselect the categories you aren't interested in. If you see a green border, it means the category shows. No green border means category is deselected.

Congratulations you loser who made a fake account to talk shit to people, you desperately found a list "objectifying" men wow one little list this totally makes up for all the stupid ass "sexy chicks" lists made on here by creepy and sad old men like yourself. Because I know you have another account u cheap ho.

I see lots of 'babes' and 'polls' lists on the front page.

Increase the number of votes required for the front page promo for the list of category 'people'. They easily get 30+ votes and makes unfair for the lists of food, movies, arts, books, automobiles, et cetera.

Just a suggestion!

@Reno
Have you tried de-selecting "People" and "Beauty" in Profile - Settings - Categories?
Reno 8 years, 11 months ago at Jun 12 20:13 -
No! coz I want all categories, but my worry is those I mentioned are overcrowded. That's all!

The O.P. 8 years, 10 months ago at Jun 20 9:51 -
@Reno
Yes there's lots of Babes on Home Page. Yes it's overcrowded. Yes I am not fond of it either. So, what can we do about it? I'd like being able to customize my own home page, that is to say pick the Categories I am interested in (a feature we already have), or maybe filter "promoted lists" according to tags, list author, keywords in list titles (a feature I'd like to have). Ideally, I would like I could set my own custom list promotion rules.
Also, I believe Listal is not "discussion oriented" as it should be. For instance, we cannot subscribe to a list, or to a movie profile, and be notified of new comments, reviews, or any updates. That doesn't help if you are interested in discussing films, books, fine foods, whatever. That leaves Listal an "image based" site, which may be enough for Babe watchers but not so for movie buffs and book worms! :)
Reno 8 years, 10 months ago at Jun 21 13:07 -

I am not Babes haters, coz I am not one hundred percent gentleman. Whatever happen or happening, I still love the Listal. What I said earlier was just my observation and thought that I put in what someone started a topic to discuss about. That does not mean the administrator wants to take the action against them.

I don't like politics. I'm saying it coz in a democracy, the people who voted against will have to deal with the winner. Actually, it's okay compared to communism where almost everyone stands opposite to their ruler which is against their rights. What I am saying is this forum is democracy, the majority wins and there will always be a few desappointers, like me maybe.

If Babes is what bring people here, that's cool coz Listal is alive and active. I am in the Listal coz of the movies, hope movie fanatics are aggressive as the Babes followers. So I am cool, hope you're and so everybody. Let Listal win. :)

I think every person has their opinion on this matter and they have their choice whether or not to see or create a list about Models, movies,tv series, games etc.
I don't get your point of being such a dramatic about all this.
I always vote for the lists about movies, models ,games,tv series etc. and also made them. But I am aslo sick of seeing all the same types of lists over and over again whether it is about any topic.
I think it sometime nice to have a poll type system so that something new always happen that bind us to Listal.
TrekMedic 8 years, 8 months ago at Sep 11 1:46 -
I've created lists about women, about TV shows, about movies,...I've created polls about women, TV shows and movies. Guess which ones have the highest vote and/or view counts? The lists and polls about women.
AJJ 8 years, 7 months ago at Sep 25 14:01 -
I see my list was mentioned, and thanks for calling me a perv :D Before publishing, I was wondering would that be too much, but since there are so many lists that objectify woman , in much worse way , I thought why not, I like to see handsome men as much as every other girl.

I would welcome suggestions to encourage the publication of different types of lists as I also feel there are far too many of these type of lists.

"filthy perverted degenerates who objectify women"

I've been called worse by smarter. Then again, it would only matter if your opinion of me mattered. Since it doesn't.......

Tom, I would love to come up with a suggestion since I agree that we may have strayed to far to one side in regards to the types of list published, but I don't have a clue. If current TV shows and movies mean anything it would tell me that "sex sells", and that the majority of people (male and female) that participate in Listal like this type/genre' and will consistently vote for it.

I, like TrekMedic, have a variety of lists published but it would seem that the most popular feature women. In a free society the will of the people is not always what you may want but it is reality.

Not completely true. Your top voted lists are not the "Babes" type.

"Female Warriors" is a Babe list, as is " Female Vampires". My point is that, by and large, the lists that feature women get the most attention. I, personally, publish lists about things I like or that interest me so if I don't get a lot if votes I don't care. But if I were into collecting as many votes as possible I would be mass producing lists about women and such.

Just making an observation and a point.
Iceviper 8 years, 7 months ago at Oct 14 11:09 -
One other point...

Why is it when men make lists about women (clad in skimpy clothing/bikini's/whatever) we are ""filthy perverted degenerates who objectify women" but when women make the same lists (don't believe me, check out all of the fashion lists out there, mostly made/published by female members) there isn't a peep to me heard? Double standard? Oh yeah!

If it offends you so much when men do it, you need to be as offended when women do it. If not, you just can't be taken seriously. And if you can't be taken seriously, you're pretty much ignored.

Deal.

Iceviper, I don't see those two lists of yours as typical Babe lists (usually, photos of females with big boobs, inexpressive faces and poor taste in clothing).
Personally I am not a fan of Babe lists but I voted for those two lists of yours because they are different.

Anyways, your "non-female" lists did well too (classic posters, black holes, super nova).
Iceviper 8 years, 6 months ago at Oct 20 10:50 -
I follow your train of thought. I'm just trying to see the logic in the thought process of some members when they make statements that, to me, have no basis in fact and/or credibility. Everybody's tastes, likes, opinions, politics, religion, etc., etc. differ......you don't have to like or agree with them but it would be nice if you put up with them. They put up with you.

In short, if you don't like the list, don't vote for it. If you don't like the member or their ideals, block him/her. If you don't like Listal, leave.

It's really just that simple people.

@Iceviper Amen to that. I am all for freedom of speech. But, if you read Kenji's post, he was just wondering "why there is not much variety". This is not about freedom, it's about variety. Like Tom said, he also feels there are "far too many" of the Babes type of lists. OK, men like watching beautiful women and always will (and the other way round, I guess), but I don't think we need a "Babe site" for Listal to be a success. IMDb has no sexy pics at all. Pinterest is not based on sex either.
Iceviper 8 years, 6 months ago at Oct 23 12:28 -
@O.P.: I believe there is variety, a lot of it. The problem is that a good percentage of those lists do not generate interest (i.e.=votes). If there isn't interest, why spend the time on the subject? There are some, like OJ and the wife, that can pull it off because of (in my opinion) artistic ability, hard work and a loyal group of followers but most members are going to bring to the table what gets the most interest with least amount of effort.

Again, I believe it's about votes. I put my stuff out there just to make my two cents known but I gotta tell you....it feels great when a lot of people vote for it. To me it shows they looked and liked/approved and being that humans are social animals, approval and being liked, those are good things.

When it comes to "Babes", do you count the fashion lists in this category?

@O.P.; "a good percentage of those lists do not generate interest (i.e.=votes)" I stand by what I said. Your examples highlight your point, but looking at the overall group, especially the recently published lists (I'm talking the past year) it should be noted that lists featuring "babes" and just simple picture posts of "babes" have been getting a higher number of hits/votes than other categories.

I'm not even sure what my point is anymore. Listal is Tom's baby and Listal will be whatever he wants it to be, it's not a democracy. I'm here because I enjoy it and when I don't enjoy it any more I'll be gone. And while I did say it's not a democracy, people still "vote with their feet". Be careful what you wish for, it may come true.

I'm not even sure what my point is anymore, either :D
Anyhow, like you noticed, those "top voted ever" lists are not recent ones.
What about recent lists?
I've just checked the Promoted Lists on Home Page. I see very few Babes today! Maybe it's a fluke? :)
Iceviper 8 years, 6 months ago at Oct 28 11:42 -
@O.P.; I try and run through the new lists every couple of days and vote for what interests me or that catches my eye, especially if its from a newer site member. Long story short, the majority of the new stuff I'm seeing (approx. 50%) is female oriented. Whether is straight out "babes" or "fashion" oriented (they look the same to me) it's all about the females and their appeal. I'm not saying it's right or wrong (I really don't care as long as it's not outright porn) but trying to filter/regulate this content is going to be difficult. Censorship always reflects the censors mindset and predisposed opinions. One persons fashion is another persons offensive sexually oriented objectification of women is another persons art.

Who is right? Who decides this? Why even wade into the swamp? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Especially to cater to the loud and vocal few (who will never be happy anyway).

Just my opinion.

:)
TrekMedic 8 years, 6 months ago at Oct 28 17:30 -
@ O.P. yeah, I've noticed a decided shift in the type of lists making the front page since this thread started. I agree with Ice, it's Tom's property, but I think he's pandering to this new Puritan sect of members.
Moderator
The O.P. 8 years, 6 months ago at Oct 29 12:34 -
I don't think that Kenji's post, which originated this thread, asked for a "Puritan" Listal, nor am I asking for it. Like Reno put it, "...I want all categories, but my worry is those I mentioned are overcrowded. That's all!".
Those messages were posted a few months ago, before the new site was launched.
Now, I seem to see fewer "Babes" on Listal Home Page, though. Maybe that's a side effect of the death of Ranking?
@Iceviper, I wouldn't count any Fashion list as "Babes". I am not saying Babes should be banned from Listal (as long as they are not againstl Listal image rules), but not any lists showing Female Models or Actresses or Female Characters... is a list of "Hotties", you know :)

Tom 8 years, 6 months ago at Oct 29 16:25 -
It has nothing to do with pandering to people, I just don't want this site to be primarily about beautiful women and as Kenji said I would like to see a variety of lists. I did adjust the votes needed for promotion of people/beauty lists which is why there are less on the front page but admittedly may have made it a little too difficult.
Moderator
The O.P. 8 years, 6 months ago at Oct 30 9:46 -
Well done! I quite like the fact there are fewer of them on the front page. The front page shows to the world what the site is about.
Anyway, don't worry, some "hot indian babes (31 items)" are still there. ;)
Iceviper 8 years, 6 months ago at Oct 30 10:43 -
@O.P.: you said that you worry that some lists (Babes) are overcrowding the site. My point is that they overcrowd because they are popular and appeal to the majority of current members. If they didn't, they wouldn't get votes and the people making them would eventually disappear. It would seem that if you don't want the overcrowding you need to eliminate either the lists themselves or the people making these lists. At that point Listal would cease to exist, in my opinion, as a site for all users and become a specialty "niche" site for elitists.

As for the difference between "fashion" and "babes", I don't see any. I could filter through the "fashion" pictures and assemble lists of pictures that would rival those scorned as "babes", would that be different? I think not but I don't believe I would have many people in my corner. I have noticed that a number of moderators (some past) and senior users post heavily in the "fashion" category and I wonder if the reason that "fashion" remains on the pedestal is because of that? Doesn't really matter to me, but if I can see/notice this I would assume other members see it also.

Kinda makes you wonder if the playing field is actually level,.......or not.

a few "users" have created numerous phony accounts
and vote up the same lists - so maybe the popularity
of certain lists isn't always as it seems...
Moderator
The O.P. 8 years, 6 months ago at Oct 30 16:06 -
@Iceviper

Supernaut is right about the phony accounts. I noticed a single user who gave 2,000+ votes to another user and didn't vote for anyone else. Twin souls, uh? ;)
There is a number of accounts that look absolutely fake. We report suspicious accounts to Tom, but creating new accounts is extremely easy.

Apart from that, I think the point is: a website has the right to be what it wants to be!
Seems to me Listal aims at appealing to a mix of audiences ranging from movie buffs to music fans, bookworms to "video game addicts" :D and so on for all Listal Categories.
Beauty is a Category too, we all created some lists to celebrate beauty, why not?, but too much of it would annoy those who look for other things too. The more annoying when it's not so tasteful. Fashion usually goes (should go) hand in hand with taste. :)
