This question has been resolved.

It's because cropped ones aren't allowed, even when posted first, the full image always gets favoured ;o

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the head shot image originally posted was not exactly the same (not cropped), there was no reason to delete it, also when this started a full image was replaced with almost exactly the same image even though it was posted after mine. After that full images were deleted that were not the same. If you saw the "record" of images in my account only one was deleted because of the reason you stated.

I took a look at the pics you have had deleted. The majority were deleted for being duplicates but many of those are 'paparazzi' photos', which leads me to believe that they could have been 'near duplicates'.

Flooding the picture galleries with numerous redundant photos of the same event (like a celebrity walking their dog or standing on the red carpet at an event) isn't allowed and is a major problem here. That's Image Spam.

Without looking at each person's gallery I can't say for certain but that could have been the reason for some of those; having pictures that are nearly identical isn't allowed anymore than having ones that are exactly identical.

Many of the picture galleries here are indeed flooded with such paparazzi pics and, though we haven't gotten to all of them yet, we will...eventually.

So, that could have been the reason for some.

There were also a few pics, I noticed, that weren't of the person they were supposed to be. There were also two that were collage pics, which are two or more pics put together to make one. Those aren't allowed either.

As for any that were strictly duplicates...we don't choose which is oldest and keep it. We choose the larger and/or better quality pic to keep. So sometimes the one kept is larger and sometimes it's not, it's just of better quality. Also a pic without a watermark or tag will be chosen to keep over a duplicate with ont.

Maggie recently made a supplemental guide that could prove useful in the future with regards to any questions.

On the bright side, I didn't see any 'nudity' pics. :)

Bigger is not always better - Here are two images that I found yesterday and I uploaded them as examples.

The image on the right is a larger pixel size but not actually higher resolution. While the image on the left has a better resolution and there isn't any text on the image. The image on the right has been on the site for 4 years but the image on the left has been on the site for 3 years and has more votes.

Which would you deleted?

So, yes... moderators try to make the best decision possible but it still can be considered subjected and therefore biased. Still, if there were not people to make those decisions Listal would be overrun by duplicates and other images quite quickly.

*edit*

Ah, and sorry... yes moderators do make mistakes we are still human. I'm pretty sure that I have deleted at least one smaller images when in fact I should have deleted the larger one.

I already explained this in the report you filed that I rejected. It does not matter if you post first if the image posted after yours is better quality. The image you referenced that was deleted when you posted an hour before was extremely low quality. It was cropped and extremely pixelated. The image posted after yours was uncropped, crystal clear, and more than twice the size.

Posting first does not give you supreme priority. Quality comes first. If it were a case where two people posted the EXACT same thing (same picture, same size, same clarity) then yes, the primary poster would have their image kept. But that was not the case here.

You had one deleted for being a 'collage' and the rest were deleted for being spam, as Fortunato mentioned.

Jaytoasts image rule guide would be better suited in this case; mine didn't cover much on duplicates but I can always add that in.

This is late, but also: Jaytoast, technically I think both of those Eliza pictures would be allowed. One is a magazine scan and one is the digital photoshoot copy, and generally we allow both if people post them.

I appreciate the information and indeed these were 'paparazzi' photos, not images I normally post.

It's good to know there are responsible moderators with sophisticated knowledge. However the tone of some your responses seems to imply a 'you had it coming' type of affect. Which I find completely inappropriate.

Maggie in what report did you respond to and explain anything, I have had no communication with you to my knowledge. And Fortunato it might be considered a bit passive-aggressive to state 'I noticed a few of the picture weren't of the person they were supposed to be.' Who precisely? I'm curious because I am very careful with that.
At any rate, the reason people flood the site with redundant images is because they get hits and quick points.

In the most polite way I can say it, did you seriously just accuse other people of spamming images for easy points? Isn't that calling the kettle black. In all my experience doing tag administration I've yet to find a bigger spammer than you. People abuse all sorts of aspects of this site for the dumbest reasons imaginable. Of course we are snippy about it.

Also, isn't the title of this topic completely aggressive. You can't blame us for being passive aggressive back.

And to answer your other questions, there were 3 pics deleted for being the wrong person. They were long enough ago that you might have forgotten about them but we can access your whole history. And Maggie responded to your actual reported images. If you go from the main forum page to rejected issue reports you should be able to find it there. That's probably why Maggie was irritated. She already answered your question you just didn't see it. Here's a link:

I know we seem to be rude or short in the forums but it's mostly just because we deal with the same things all the time. I for one am always open to answering questions I just would rather do it through personal message than have to deal with yet another forum post about deleted images.

First of all you used the word spamming, I never did. People post these images for whatever reason. Obviously there is a lot of interest in the most current pics and you don't have to go back miles to see if something is already posted. But yes I'm sure the rating system motivates many people to gather and post these images in a frenzy to a large extent.

And aren't you the one who seems to be fond of insulting. I could care less about picture points.

Listen I will send you a message tersanay.

@Jaytoast @Maggie
Assuming that one is the digital quality version and one is the scan of the original publication, I would allow both pics. But in this case, it looks like they are just both scans. One has just been nicely retouched.
