List points

tartan_skirt 16 years, 10 months ago at Aug 14 20:39 -
As was mentioned over in the 50+ item list topic, how about upping the amount of points given for the larger lists? Like a bonus for multiples of 50 items? Would maybe promote some of the larger and more elaborate lists.

seems like a good idea. =)

I agree with this.

Maybe there should be someone who can give more points for something manually if outstanding effort has been put in?

Otherwise I'm all for reviews over a certain word count being given a points upgrade too.

I think this is a wonderful idea. I say we go for it!

I'm in agreement as well. Lengthy lists, especially 100+, take extra time and effort and should warrant extra points, IMHO.

Credible 50+/100+ lists.

Theres no point giving extra points to someone who lists 100 films jsut to get the points. There must be effort!

100+ lists of Zombie/Dog/Dinosaur/Pirate/etc films without putting anything else in it do NOT deserve a bonus.

Alphabetically categorizing, given Listal's somewhat primitive arrangement system, a 200+ list of zombie films takes time and effort, thanks.

EDIT: Perhaps that was a jab at me, perhaps it wasn't. Whatever, the point (no pun intended) isn't to bicker over what would and could possibly earn extra points. In fact, I'd be OK with the way points are awarded right now. And to take it a step further, sometimes I wonder what would happen if the point system didn't exist; maybe some folks wouldn't feel their high horse was any more special than anyone else's.

I'd actually like to know what the point system is about. What is the point of awarding points, could someone please explain?

There is none. I believe it's to encourage users to add items and contribute to the site.

Well, that makes almost no sense...

Without people contributing tags, ratings and lists to the site it would be a very boring place. Just allowing the basic listing of items would make the social side of the site redundant, and users wouldn't be able to find new stuff that applies to their interests. Points are really just a way of rewarding us for sitting infront of our computers entering data, relieving us of the feeling of the pointlessness of the task. ;) That and it adds a degree of competition with other users and the self. I know I've sat there saying to myself "Go on, just another 3 tags and it'll be a round number..." :P

I don't think it as though people are contributing for points I think it of people will contribute anyway but it's nice to give recognition for it.

I've added point increase for long lists and lists with notes to the todo list.

I was going to say, loads of my lists are under 50 but a lot of them took longer than a standard long list would..html codes etc take ages.

oh, Tartan_skirt, that actually makes more sense when you explain it that way =P

html codes take forever, so I actually haven't done any of those yet, but I will, eventually...
