List of the Month

Post of the thread

Listal.com has so much untapped potential it's phenomenal. When I first came here I only wanted a land where I could catalogue my collections free of religious prejudice, but I got caught up in the spirit so that only facilitated brainwashing can turn me now.

Being the spokesperson for the United Listal that I am, I mean to operate a contribution-based project where each month a set of six great lists of all colors and classes will be gathered and recognized. Movies or Books, Music or Games, TV or DVDs - there will be no discrimination here.

Your Web 2.0 site wants YOU!

The reasons for a list-of-the-month topic are many. To have an example of what makes a great list. To promote innovative listing techniques which could expand what members begin to come up with. To just recognized a great list here or there.

There will be six Lists of the Month, meaning you as the Listal body will have to find and nominate what you feel are the most patriotically fantastic six lists for each item type. We will require a trinity of three judges to guide the competition and decide which lists make the cut competently and without bias.

The age of moral listaling

In nominating a list consider the following:

Organization
Decisive description
Engaging notes
Adequate length
Innovative use of list system (whether by concept, fresh use of existing list functions, et cetera)
The list is a powerful, cohesive whole

The gavel is a glove you must fit

In endorsing judges, keep in mind they will need to be able to decide the following with deliberation and determination: What is better than another? I would ask each member to nominate 3 listal members and not themselves.

Got lists?

Whether you produce lists, write reviews or clean up item pages; whether the boxes on your profile page are olive green, neon black, mauve or any other color; whether you have dial-up, cable, satellite, use AOL, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Roadrunner, a bootleg connection or something unique in and of itself - you are welcome.

Have you been reading my mind and secret files Thilian? This was my next 'project' to get off the ground! List of the Month and Review of the Month! Although I would personally veto DVD Reviews unless they were about the DVD content & special features.

We could have a different trio of judges per month to make that little bit of difference when it comes to decisions and taste.

The main problem with starting it now is that magnificent reviews and spectacular lists already posted will go without the appreciation they deserve. I do think we should hold a poll for 'Older Reviews' that deserve a round of applause. Unless you mean that a List has to be put forward *that* month to have judgement set upon it.

We could even ask Tom to add a 'Trophy Cabinet' Box to our profiles for winning and showing our prestigious awards! This could even extend if Creative Corner ever comes about where we could have Writing Contests, Poetry Competitions, Graphic Design Parlay's to further merit the achievement of individual members.

Old reviews are bound to be missed. I was thinking of going the first year with old lists as qualifieds and dropping it thereafter, but I like your reasoning better. How about we nominate lists from the current year for the contest's primary purpose and allow an "underdog" recognition for those not appreciated in their time?

Another problem is that you need hype to achieve a community effort such as this. I think I'll propose Tom send a monthly e-newsletter to remind members that the site's still awesome.

There must be some intradimensional connection between your mind and mine. I've also considered a glory reward such as this.

Here are some nominations I feel are either extraordinary or awesome example lists:

Movies - Listal's 100 films to see before you die (Gunza Blazin)
Like any national sport, religion, or cult serial killer, this list has brought people together minus the controversy.

Music - Blur Discography (Phil)
Great, solid marriage of html, content, visual appeal and organization.

Books - Loeb Classical Library (Thilian)
Mass times Weight.

Games - Mega Man Classic Series (List-All)
Here we have the all-listlers example of how to make a game series list.

Maybe we should do a Tag of the Month too. LOOOL^^ Baddle time!

This will really help with contribution. Recognition of people's efforts is bound to promote more quality and activity for the website. I'll throw up a thread later about Review of the Month with the two seperate plans I had lined out. I want to see which people would prefer as a system before I make the proposal to Tom....to make me the happiest man on Earth. I'm pretty sure Thilian has Custom Lists covered.

I love this idea, I better go hunt around! Can we have marks for originality too? Either in mechanisms used within the list or the topic itself, GB's 'Best Moustaches' list has to have been the highlight of my week! Original concepts like this are always a favourite, myself.

I wouldn't waste my time. Nothin'll ever live up to my "www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=narutard" tag. ;)

I can hold the show together - I just need an audience!
