Joaquin Pheonix to "quit the business"

Apparently Joaquin Pheonix is quitting acting to pursue music. Here is the article.
I'm a bit surprised. I think he's too talented of an actor to quit now. On the other hand, he is someone who marches to the beat of his own drum... Thoughts anyone?

Well, he did sing all the songs himself, in Walk the Line, and I thought he was rather good. Not Johnny Cash good, but still very good.
But in Hollywood, its sometimes the connections you have that get you good roles. He IS a very talented actor, but if he's getting frustrated at choice of films, I can see him leaving to try music out.

True. Apparently after learning the guitar for his role in Walk the Line he was more inspired to pursue music than to continue on with acting. I must say though, he has had some crap roles recently. So you have a good point - perhaps he was fed up with all those dull roles (Ladder 49? plus a recent romance flick).

He also was in 'We Own the Night' which was an OK corrupt cop thriller movie, but very forgettable. Nothing special. His performance was great in it though.
I figured after "Walk the Line", he would be in all the big movies and land all the good scripts, but he just fell off the face of earth.
