LoginIssues with List Display and Adding Notes

I cannot get my list display to change for one of my large lists. It has over 2000 items on it and I originally had it set to minimal view so that I could quickly scroll through it while I was setting it up. Now that I have everything on it that I want to, I am trying to change the display mode to Notes View so that I can start adding notes to some items on it, but every time I click on it and then click on "Save Changes," the display stays the same. I've tried every other display mode option to see if it will change to anything, and nothing works. I can change everything else in the Edit section, but display mode will never change successfully.
Due to the unsuccessful changing of my display mode, I can't access anything that will allow me to add notes to individual items.
Has anyone else had this problem and know of a fix? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to add notes to items when I'm stuck in the minimal view display?
