Is the PS3 not selling?

Now what's your opinion thanks to a fellow listal member I think the PS3 is not selling at all. They are this desperate to sell their PS3s.

Maybe they just wanna sell more faster?

I intend to get one, I just don't feel any need to rush to do so.

sales figures for US market, in August 2008:

* Wii - 403,600
* Nintendo DS - 383,300
* Xbox 360 - 276,700
* PlayStation 2 - 202,000
* PSP - 151,200
* PLAYSTATION 3 - 130,600

Xbox360 was behind all the Sony products but jumped back into 3rd place after their recent price drop.

Yes, PS3 is selling like shit, 1 year after release. PS2 is STILL outselling it by a big margin. And Wii is STILL unstoppable after 2 full years of being at the top. So much for calling it a 'fad'.

And GA, you can't say that Sony is making as much profit because of the PS3's high price tag. Yes, it costs a lot more than a Wii, but it also costs them a lot more to make it, and to include Blu-Ray drive and all that hardware. In fact, even at its inflated price, Sony originally was losing money on each console they sold, hoping to make it back thru software sales (price of manufacturing i'm sure dropped in past year). But the Wii console itself was making Nintendo a profit right from launch, even at almost a third the price of a PS3.

Yeah but the Elite 360 sells for almost so close to the PS3.

I look at Exclusive Titles when picking which console I might go for (all I have now is a high-end pimped out PC rig, and a gamecube):

My reasons to get a Wii:
- Wii Sports (yes, i know i know, but its still fun - even if i'm sure it will get boring)
- Mario Galaxy
- Wii Fit (its not a game, but still a valid reason to get one)
- Wii Sports Resort
- We Ski & Snowboard
- The Conduit
- Mad World
- Dead Rising: Chop til you drop
- some of the best mini-games/party games out there
- Mario Kart Wii

My reasons to get a PS3:
- Blu-Ray
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Gran Turismo 5
- Final Fantasy XIII & Versus XIII (only PS3 has both titles)
- inFAMOUS
- Killzone 2
- Resistance 2
- God of War III

My reasons to get an Xbox 360:
- Halo 3
- Gears of War 2
- Fable II
- Forza 2

So I disagree, I doubt i'd get bored of the Wii with some of the titles that are out or coming out within next 6 months. But the upcoming PS3 titles are a lot more interesting that anything the X360 has to offer that's unique.

Actually they are making Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360 also.

Derron, I said that BOTH FF XIII versions are only on the PS3. ;)

FF XIII is coming on X360 & PS3, but the Versus action rpg game is a PS3 exclusive release.

They have a cooking guide on the DS? cool! I didn't know that, and one more reason to get a DS (though i'm holding off til the new DS comes out, which is slated to add Wireless Internet to the mix, complete with net access). Now THAT would be a console I could really love, when not gaming, allows me to surf to Listal.com while sitting on my couch.

And tho i hear you about the wii giving off a 'fad' feeling (i felt it too at times), I think they can possibly keep the fad going til next gen consoles emerge once more, and by then Nintendo will have enough cash and market share to really shine.

Can you imagine the next nintendo console to have an advanced motion-sensing system coupled with HD graphics and fastest multi-core processing under the box? such a system would surely knock either MS or Sony completely out of the picture in the next round of console wars.

As for the peripheral, yes, the light saber Wii sounds cheezy, but the balancing board is going to be really utilized well. There's already a few skating and snowboarding games to be released soon to take advantage of the board. I'm sure there will also be some surfing ones, or maybe even a unique 'street luge' one where you lay on your stomach and get sensation of flying down a steep road. :)

Actually the PC keeps getting stupid PC games are for noobs you want something good go play the Wii you want something better play the PS3 you want something challenging play the 360. Also don't ever call me kid.

Derron, the PC is where its at right now. As long as you have a GOOD SYSTEM, its unmatched. Nearly 90% of the consoles hits are all coming to the PC, and to top it off, theres so many PC-only releases that are unmatched in quality vs anything the console can offer.

And First-Person Shooters, Real-Time Strategy, and Turn-Based Strategy will always rule supreme on the PC.

Yeah I know the PC is getting a lot of games whoopity doo dah. Still my dad loves PC games and I play lots of them and I don't like them neither do many of the people I live near and everywhere I go.

Well I tryed a First-Person Shooter on the PC and I think the 360 is way better at it.

I do make sense cause I noticed people who mainly play games on the PC can't play the PS3 or 360 for shit.

Trust me don't base me on my age I'm smarter than an your average 16 year old.

Just because you tried some FPS game once on the PC, which maybe was an office-style PC with no dedicated video card and minimal RAM, doesn't mean you really tried FPS on PC.

Come over here and try playing Crysis (a PC-only release) at 1920 rezolution on a 24" LCD and 8800GT SLI video cards and then you'll see just what your missing.

The ONLY drawback to PC gaming is ALL the different types of systems can give very different framerate results and affect gameplay, and also cause crashes if certain hardware doesnt have the latest drivers loaded, or your running an unoptimized system.

After all, the only thing special about the X360 is that its a PC with exact same specs across all the millions of units they sold, which makes it easier on the developer as well as gamers to jump right into without any setup. But the X360 is a PC that is what, 3 years old now? Its ancient cpu and video compared to what even basic computers come with these days.

I have played maybe 4 or 5 FPS games for the PC on a good computer my dad works on them so he has the latest ones all the time but I don't know the atributes about them so I really can't tell you much but that I play on a 23" LCD moniter. I know the graphics are fa nominal but the way you play is horrible.

but gonna have to side with King Melvin. I guess it depends what your used to, but for me, mouse & keyboard are 10 times better and more responsive than any controller out there, and yes, i've played many FPS games on consoles, i just can't stand it without a mouse.

I'd rather see it locked.
