Is individuality important??

Does anyone on here belive that individuality is important?? Today I did my hair up all nice and my make up too. I put in these little colored hair extentions (the kind you clip on) in my hair too to make it look pretty. (they were blue and green) I had also wore them the day before and no one said anything. Well I went to school today and walked in and no one said anything. Then when I was going to my locker the 8th grade principle saw me and pulled me over in the hall and said I needed to take them out. So I did and started to walk to my locker. But he said I had to go sit in the office so I did. After about five minutes he told me to go out and he asked me why I was volating dress code. I told him I didn't know that I was and I had wore them yesterday. And he said I was cocking an additude with him when I wasn't and said he didn't want to see them in my hair again.
This happened this morning. So when I got home I looked in my planner for the dress code. The only thing it says in there about hair is that it must be neatly kept and there is to be no extreme coloring of the hair. He said I had extreme colors in my hair and I didn't. They were clip in extentions that were just a blue and green. Not neon colors. And I had wore them yesterday and talked to him and he didn't say anything. And a couple of my friends had thode in too and they didn't get in trouble. The dress code does not say I can't wear clip in extentions in my hair. Plus it's my hair, my body, my life, how can they tell me what I can and can't wear on it??
Do you agree or disagree?? Please tell me your thoughts on this.

Blue and green are not natural hair colors, which make that extreme coloring.

But I didn't color my hair. It says no extreme coloring of the hair meaning I can't color my hair blue green and whatever else it doesn't say I can't wear extentions.

think about it, the point of that rule is because "different" colored hair causes distractions. Do you think extensions are going to be any less distracting?

Individuality is important, yes - but we all know how principals are with their dress codes.
If you want to look different, just try wearing different clothing and hairstyles that don't make the prinicpal think you're violating the dress code.

Though individuality is important, but school is for learning, not for expressing your own unique style. We go to school to be taught so we can make it on our own when we graduate from high school. College equals a good job, and a good job equals a steady income.
So, Cali, express you individuality through something that doesn't violate the dress code.
And remember...stay in school.
(( X3 I've always wanted to say that!))

Yes I understand that school is for learning. And I was doing a new look. Does anyone know what Scene Kid hair is?? Well I have my hair cut that way to where I can poof it up like that. I put in a Blue extention one one side and a green one on the other. They aren't bright colors and nobody noticed them till a was fixing them AND I had wore them the day before and was talking to everyone of the principles at lunch and NO ONE, NO ONE said ANYTHING about them Not even my teachers.
What I don't understand is how I got in trouble today when I DIDN'T yesterday??

Individuality is important, never let school take that away from you, else you'll just be a stupid little sheep who never does anything truly good,
The greatest inventors were all considered crazy for their time, some book writers were too, now they're amazing becausethey pulled it off, why? because they followed their own path of thought in order to benefit the world and leave a mark, same to painters and musicians,
'Different' colored hair is not distracting in my opinion, at my school I see all sorts of people with oddly colored hair, it causes absolutely no trouble in learning(Except MAYBE the first day one does it) changing one's hair, if you can't come to school with it, how the hell can you ever have that color?(Granted, extensions are different, but I'm talking dyed hair), are you just supposed to switch each freaking day, Student's rights do NOT stop at the doorway, we SHOULD be able to do whatever we want, but most people don't know that, if enough knew that and stood up for that, they'd have no choice but to obey Supreme Court in the matter
I forget the case... it had something to do with refusing to do prayer in school... Ummm... Forgot the name of it, anyways, it's dress code, so you have to follow it for now, but it CAN be changed with enough support...
As for why you got in trouble the SECOND day, perhaps he was in an especially bad mood today, I'd seen teachers who have been the nicest people ever whom suddenly suspend and bitch about one student for a day and then apologize for it later
Education is important, but not at the cost of Individuality, if you lose your Individuality, all you are good for is anything that is already there, you won't ever broaden the horizons and think outside of the box, still, Education is always needed to, one cannot exist without the other in a positive way(you're either a tool/sheep(Lack individuality) or an idiot(lack education) if you're missing one of them)
Woo!! Devious' rant of the day!

Devious it is good to have your own style or whatever, but if the only way you can accomplish that is by breaking the rules don't do it.

Thank you for seing how I feel about everything Yama.
I appreciate your support.
And I know things can be changed in the school rules with support.
Last year A girl was getting a potision for something that had to do with dress code I forget what though, but I was one of the people to sign it. She got 600 people in the school to sign it and the rule got changed all because of the student body(WHOOOO!!! GO STUDENTS:p)
But this year it got changed back to the origanal rule. Wanna know why??
Because on the last day of school we have feild day.
Some idiot in the school decided to bust a hole in one of the water slides, steal money from the cash register, and get into a fight.
Because of that ONE person everything in the school got changed.
We got break, siting at different lunch tables, vending machines, lokers, and differnt rules got changed and prevliges got taken away.
Because of ONE SINGLE STUDENT the ENTIRE school is suffering because of something that happened LAST YEAR!
If I started a petition to change that what good does all the work that the students put into getting that one rule chaged go to if they change it right back because of something that should be takin up with the law??

I will say what I posted again!!!
IF YOU WANT TO LOOK DIFFERENT TRY DOING THINGS THAT ARE DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PEOPLE BUT IN A WAY YOU DON'T GET IN TROUBLE!!!!
Damn, does NOBODY listen to me!?!

Omfg what i'm saying is look at your friends/not friends and come up with your own style! unless you have fucking uniforms it shouldn't be so fucking hard!!! damn!!

Well we dont wear uniforms but it is difficult to express our style at my school.

Gahhh..sorry I yelled at you (hypothetically -can't really be yelling if it's typed.)
But, I hated the dress code,I couldn't wear any of my good clothes because they had like glittery words on them like 'old navy' and we weren't allowed to wear any shirts with logos on them...
That's part of the reason why I became homeschooled x.x

She's saying her own style implies scenic hair in a rather mild amount; She wants to look colorful, who the should have the right to take that away from her?
it's just like teachers, they can't talk about religion or any opinions at all, they have rights to, we can express our opinions but it is SO wrong for them to, wth?
They should be able to tell us their opinion on things, so long as they aren't going to get pissed if we have oposite views, it should go both ways,
Considering the dress code, I DOUBT she knows any friends whom have scenic hair(other then the ones she said got away with it)

Cali, people at my old school wore their PAJAMAS to school. Maybe you could try that X]
And if you want colorful hair, try highlighting it red or pink or blue or something, maybe?

Ayame, as long as you get done using homeschool it's fine, no slacking off :P
We have dress codes that: Forbid Hoods, Hats, Bandanas, Spaghetti Straps, Tanktops, Headbands, Any spiked jewerly, I haven't really looked at it so that's all I can remember...
Obivously, they can also get pissed if you wear something vulgar or 'bad' in societies eyes (Like drinking, even though practically every person I've ever met 17+ drinks) or maybe a cigarette brand(Ditto to this) or perhaps something sex related
I'm glad I don't have a dress code like yours from what I'm hearing, I'd completely flip out, I'd probably switch schools too, chances are I can find a better nicer and less snooty school that also allows certain types of dressing to be allowed
Also, Ayame: Sometimes Highlighter mixes with the hair and makes the wrong color(Like if you try and use a yellow highlighter on red hair, in somecases you get a nasty brown streak, I've seen lots of people try it) also, I'm not sure, but I heard highlighter fluid is bad for your hair

It is.
One time I took a sharpies and made racoon tails in my a=hair and didn't get in trouble:]
But it really took a long time to get out and it damaged my hair.
And were not allowed to wear low-cut shirts(that is exagerated a bit cuz people will wear a shirt that goes down past their coller bone that exposes chest skin and get suspended), short or caprees that go above the knee(how much sense does that make?? Caprees above the knee, no pajamas, no house shoes, No holes in pants above the knee, No rips in shirts, no skits that go above the knee(can't wear them with leggings eiher), No profan(understandable), No dresses above knees, No spandex or exsesivly tight clothing, no shirts that expose the mid-drift or any part of the back,no tanks or spagetti straps, no tube tops.
Shall I continue or do you have a good idea of how crazy our school is??

Omg... I'd die there, not holes in pants above knee, my favorite pairs of pants have little holes there(I wreck a lot :P)
rips in clothing looks cool! :P Low cut shirts are interesting, they only look cool on a guy if they have net clothing underneaththough (Sadly I can afford neither :P)
No leggings, damn you're school would get burned to the ground if any of the girls at my school went there

it'd be funny :D, anyways, individuality is like independence, if you don't have it, are you really leading anything?
The only point of life so far is to have fun with it and be able to die happy, and to help advance this world for the benefit of those to come,
Individuality does both of those

If the hair extensions aren't glued into your hair or scalp and they clip on wouldn't those just be hair clips?
other than that, the dress code looks like a standard middle school dress code. Well, either way, its not like you'll be needing it for long. Summer's around the corner, and then high school for you. Where the teachers and administrators have more to worry about than what you're wearing. To an certain extent atleast.

You baka's, I didn't mean using markers for highlighting your hair!!
I meant getting ACTUAL hair products that color your hair, and using them only in different places. And if you use a color that looks like a natural red, you can get away with saying "But I have red highlights! That's not against the rules if it's natural!"

Man, it sounds like you guys need a uniform. I hated my uniform when I was actually at school, but it makes so much sense to have one, at least until you're 16. If you're trying to ram your individuality down everyone's throat by being alternative then you're not being individual at all. You're just being an angsty teenager.
The sixth post in this thread got it right. Individuality is important, but at school learning is more important. You should prove your individuality by getting great grades, writing excellent pieces of coursework and doing well at school rather than sticking zany colours in your hair that anyone can come along and copy.

Gotta say he's being pissy individuality is important but don't go whining to everyone just because he and you were arguing and he was being a douche.
I have a french headmistress in a welsh school she just randomly picks on children just keep you're head down and maybe the ass like the witch will look over you and not notice.

I loved my principal at my school; she was really nice. She'd let us do whatever with our clothes, so long as we stayed within the code, which wasn't that hard to do. My code was just that you couldn't wear anything below your middle finger when your arms are held straight at your sides, no shirts with logos (pictures were okay), no shirts cut too low, no spaghetti straps, and all tank top straps had to be the width of three adult-sized fingers. Simple code.
