Listal iPhone app?
It would be pretty awesome if done properly. Also, it might get attention to Listal.

I got iPhone on Friday (my first) :) I just need to see how complicated it would be to develop an app, also wondering about the benefits of an app vs. a mobile web version.

i think that an general mobile web version, would be more user friendly as i think most users still have normal phones or smartphones

I guess the main benefit of a native iPhone app would be publicity from the iPhone community

Allow me to bump this ancient thread. A Listal iPhone app would definitely be much desired.

I would like to throw in a vote for a Android application even though I'm in the minority right now.

I'm throwing my weight behind the idea of a mobile site, much better value in my opinion.

I would like to do a iPhone app someday, other than time the main problem at the moment is buying a mac to develop the app and fees for joining the apple network and submitting the application.

Nothing getting in the way of a mobile site :)

The hardest part for a mobile version would be deciding which features to include since this site has a wide range of functions.

I don't have an iPhone, Droid or anything like that, but I don't think an app would be a bad idea for the users who would be able to use such a thing. Keep it simple though, and only make it so that users can view a movie, music album, DVD, game or book and list it as either watched or want to watch (or read or want to read, etc.) and also be able to rate it.
A good example of how this app could be helpful: just getting out of a movie theatre and wanting to rate a movie you just saw. Or you're in a book store and see a book that you want but aren't able to buy... perfect opportunity to pull your iPhone out and mark that item as "wanted" on Listal!

You said that you have a iPhone so I would suggest taking a look at the mobile sites for Facebook, Amazon, and Digg to give you a idea what to do as I think they have good designs with lots of functions.

I guess I could start out with minimal features and build it out from there.

another vote!!!

Bringing this back...I was about to buy an app on my iPhone to list the movies I own (as well as easy access, while in the store, of my wishlist) But if a Listal iPhone app was made, that would be so awesome.
PLEASE MAKE A MOBILE VERSION!

Another vote for a mobile site. It's difficult to rate things with my clumsy fingers. And like g0 said, all one really needs is the ability to rate and mark as 'wanted'.

iPhone guys, just use the Delicious Library app, I've heard its very good.
Android users (like me), must wait for further development. ;(

I would DEARLY love an ipod app. Here are my suggestions for features:
~View all saved (i.e. personally created) lists locally on ipod/iphone without internet connection/wifi/cell connection.
~With wifi connected: add items to lists, browse other lists, post reviews of movies/books/music
The important part, for me, would be locally-stored lists. I don't have an iphone, I have an ipod, and I turn off the wifi unless I'm actively using it, because it uses the battery faster. I would LOVE to be able to access my movie lists while I'm at the store, so I would know which movies I already own and I don't accidentally buy another copy, or which books I've been meaning to buy and are on my wishlist. I also have several lists that are reference lists for a few groups I am a member of, and it would be convenient to be able to pull up that list when someone asks me if I know of any good books that are relevant to that group.
Personally, I don't much care how the lists get to my ipod, and if I had to sync the ipod with my computer to get them, I'm fine with that. But most of your other users will be iphone users, and they will prefer real-time access with modification & search features, so that will be important too.

Not sure an app is needed, but a mobile version of the site would be nice. For me, I'd just be looking for a read-only version of my DVD / game collections. That way when I'm in a store I can tell if I own the thing I'm about to buy already or not. To that end, if I could easily view my friends collections in the same way, it might prevent me from making a purchase if I know a close friend owns it already.

I personally wouldn't use an app, but a mobile version of this website would be appreciated. As nice as Listal is, it's a bit fiddly to use on mobile devices.
As a side note, Listal also has a couple of quirks when viewed on an iPad. For example, the boxes on my profile don't appear 'solid'. Here is a screen grab of the problem.

Would there be a way for Listal.com to update my watched items using data gathered using the IntoNow app?
www.intonow.com/
www.intonow.com/

id pay $.99 for an app, def worth it

It would probably be a free app but maybe with a payed premium version.
For IntoNow it would depend if they have a way of accessing the data and general interest in it, i tend to avoid these integrations as there are so many apps and websites these days.

How about a mobile web site that can be used by iPhones and Android phones (Android owner here)? Since development time is precious, I think the time would be better spent on something that can be more widely used.
I've been waiting for something simply that just lets me easily check my list of owned DVDs while I'm in a store. I find myself using Listal less because of this missing piece. I created a simply Excel file that has a plain list of all my DVDs and put that on Dropbox which can then be easily read on my phone.

Another vote for an iPhone app.
Actually, it may be more worthwhile if you first release just a mobile version of the website, that way all mobile users (iPhone, Android, WinMo) can access it. Right now, I maintain two lists: Listal and a simple text file on Dropbox. The latter is just so I have an easy way to pull up the movies I have on my phone. Browsing the full fledged Listal site on my iPhone when I just want to see if I have a movie or not (or to add a movie to my want list), is a complete pain.
Funny: I just posted this, and didn't even realize that I had already mentioned it 7 months ago two posts up and pretty much said the same thing. Sorry.

Work has begun on a iPhone app but it will be at least a few months before release

I am with Majdan. A mobile-friendly web version of the site would work on all smartphones and tablets regardless of the operating system (Android, Apple, Windows, Blackberry...) and would probably require less maintenance, I guess.

Mobile version (or app, both for iPhone and Android) is badly needed.
I've been trying to switch to some other site for a while, precisely because of the lack of a mobile app.
That is a killer feature: I don't want to use my laptop to add a movie to my "seen" list, I want to do it quickly on my phone.
