Internet Movie Database

I know a lot of people use IMDB to find information about movies and TV shows, but who here submits data?

I'm currently on my 16th new entry submission, and it is a lot of work trying to gather enough information together to get a new submission accepted, especially if it is obscure, but I think it is well worth it. Of course, that is my main focus: obscure stuff, mainly British documentaries and Japanese odds and ends that I've come across and want to keep track of it on here so I fill in an entry. Without this site I doubt I would have started, so thanks! :P

Anyone else?

I don't know if it's any different these days, but last time I checked certain stuff on IMDB, it's accuracy was a little dodgy...

As with any user maintained database there are of course discrepancies, but since there is a lot of protocol to go through before anything gets approved it is a lot more vandal-proof than, say, Wikipedia (which I still love).

I've not come across many mistakes yet, but when I do I try my best to research into it and correct it. The great thing about IMDB is that it has quite a lot of people maintaining data on it, some people even being involved in the film industry themselves so information is readily available from people who really do know their stuff (and of course there are the bored people like me who just spend WAY too much time looking stuff up).

Anything in particular you found wrong?

I can't remember details, off the top of my head, for the most part. But they were pretty glaring errors, as I recall. One I do remember was between 2005 and 2006, when it maintained that a certain character would be in the finale of both respective series of Doctor Who. Given the character, and the actor billed to play the part, I strongly suspect the error can be sourced to 'gossip' dropped from the actor himself (he's quite a trickster, in telling people he's 'going to be in something soon, but can't say anything'). Quite remarkable how the fans who edited these particular entries were fooled *twice*, though - the credulous fools! But yes, you're right, the problem with accuracy exists wherever the database is user maintained. Wikipedia is, as you say, another prime example, though I generally find that to be quite useful. I'm not sure what I think of user maintained sites, to be honest. Wikipedia are also complete idiots when it comes to copyright, too.

I have submitted bit and pieces to IMDB but found it frustrating especially with aussie stuff that is hard to find sources for. And I've been annoyed by reviews I wrote that have been edited, this has subtley changed te meanings. I hate having to have review approved. Here and rateyourmusic I put em up and that's it. As long as it's not too offensive it stays there. I woul like to contribute more to that anti-wikipedia with all the mis-information. It's very funny

Uncyclopedia? Yes, that is rather fun when you get annoyed at Wikipedia and just want a laugh at killer cabbages.

Probably one of the most annoying things about IMDB is when your entry is rejected over and over again even though you have enough information, and the explaination? They just haven't bothered to look at it yet. ยฌ_ยฌ
