Image points

I just realised that after 3 months the pictures you put up the points go if the picture has less then ten views.

I understand that the site wants to cut down on duplicate images. However there are some people that upload screenshots posters etc to the movies music pages, and all the work contributing to the site is lost.

Demonting points I feel won't help get rid of the duplicate images, and it might stop people who upload photos to the movie pages or music pages etc from doing so.

Why can't there be certain moderators who only delete images, instead on realying on people to report it which I don't think a lot of people do.

I am sorry if this subject has been brought up before, I just wanted to give a little feedback and suggestion. I do like this site it is very good.

The reduction in points has nothing to do with duplicate images.

This more has to do with the quantity of images that are uploaded. If a profile has over 8000 images posted in it and more are added to that profile daily... it doesn't really seem that all those images deserve points just for being there if no one has any interest.

Yet, each attempt to deter image spam of course is a double edge sword and is going to hurt those who aren't over loading the site with worthless images but in fact uploading decent content. However, who is to be the judge of what is worthy or not... not all paparazzi photos are trash and not all screen shots are decent. So, the amount of views an image gets is about as close to an impartial judge as the site can get.

I mainly upload screen shots for films. Especially, if the film doesn't have any screen shots. Then I sit back and watch my points and ranking go up and down. Yes, it sucks that providing something that I feel is a great contribution to the site is bond to give me zero points or zero votes. Then again if I was on this site only for points I would only upload images of Nolan Films, Kittens hugging rainbows and women with big breasts.

I remind myself that there are the very dedicated users who upload images of book covers, game covers and other Listal obscurities, members who aren't social or play 'vote for me and I'll vote for you' and wind up having amazing lists with only four votes.

So, I really don't care about points as it has no bearing on your value as a Listal member and what you bring to the site. It has always been that way regardless of any changes to the point system.

There is no real way to have a 'fair' point system and deter unwanted or spammy activity. Losing points after three months is about the closes the site can come to politely say "Don't be a point/ranking whore and uploaded every bit of garbage from the internet".

I understand maybe they should get rid of the points, I do enjoy this site and I for one will continue to help it, because it is the only real site I have come across that allows users to help out. Thank you for your reply.

Maybe the first 5 pictures for each item should be given points regardless of view count, so that the effort on lesser known movies with no pics yet... is rewarded anyway, even if they are not going to get lots of views.
