Image deletion issue.

I've held back and not said a word for months now, but this is getting ridiculous. I am getting images deleted because they are a DVD cover for a film. This is acceptable and I even asked Tom about this a few years back. Adding a poster to a DVD page is one thing, but adding a DVD cover should absolutely be acceptable for a movie page. Anything having to do with that movie whether it's a screen shot, poster, or DVD/VHS cover should always be accepted. A huge portion of movies have no poster. The only "cover" is the DVD cover on many of these. I think this needs to be brought to the attention of the moderators because there is absolutely no reason for this.

Nice one !
Of course, DVD covers are legit and shouldn't be deleted.
In my case, they have deleted 2 posters with the reason 'other'. My guess is that they were deleted because they were considered fan made but that's BS. Those posters were official posters used by the Alamo Drafthouse, a real movie theater in Texas. And if you have never heard of the Alamo Drafthouse, just ask the giraffe, he'll tell you everything to know...
two things went wrong here :
1. Someone has reported these pics. Why?!?
2. A moderator has deleted them. Do you moderator doublecheck before deleting something? I think it is quite worrying that you guys will basically delete anything as long it is reported...
So, don't delete those pics! !

In this case it was just a standard DVD cover of Mallrats that I uploaded over 5 years ago. A month or so it was a DVD cover of Underworld. I do agree that it appears that anything reported (regardless of reason) usually seems to get deleted.

But then again, should we allow a particular film's image section be overflooded by the thousands of different DVD covers for a film that exist?

@Bml93, that's not the point here...
Like Gauntlet explained earlier, 'A huge portion of movies have no poster'. The rules is that legit posters shouldn't be deleted and fan-made should be removed. So, in my case and Gauntlet's, the posters shouldn't be deleted.
Honestly, there are so many sex pics on this website, I really don't see why those posters should represent an issue.

And that seems fair for direct-to-DVD films. But DVD covers should really just be uploaded to the DVD page. Not the film's page. Or else, why not flood a film page with DVD covers for some extra points? After all, there exists thousands of different, official DVD covers for each film. And just because the site is full of "sex pics", it doesn't mean that it can turn into an issue eventually.
And I'm not talking about the posters you uploaded, johan. I'm talking about DVD covers.

@Bml93 Wait... the complaint is that there would be too many images? Isn't that kind of the point? As long as they're all unique and legit (non-fan made) then there shouldn't be a problem.

Too many similar images, yes. That's an issue.

@Bml93, I can understand that you're bothered by this clutter of similar posters but, honestly, since those don't go against the rules, that's your problem. You should talk to Tom and ask him to change the rules following your idea but I'm pretty sure, he won't change those rules.

@Bml93
Depends.
If a movie has a poster, then I would delete the DVD cover.
If, on the contrary, there is no available poster, because as Gauntlet said "A huge portion of movies have no poster", then I think the DVD cover is acceptable: it is better than nothing.
Seem to me that IMDb follows the same policy.

Yes, as I said: "And that seems fair for direct-to-DVD films."
But uploading a similar poster, in which the only difference is, for instance, just adding the blu-ray logo at the top seems unnecessary. Why not just upload it to the Blu-ray/DVD page for that film instead? But I guess that it's just me that feels like this. Then again, I'm not after the points one gets for exploiting the rules.

@Gauntlet
There are quite a number of tolls who falsely report plenty of images for the sole reason to be spiteful to some other members. I also like the flurry of reporting images because the person in the photo is 'gay'. So... no not all reports are legitimate and are frequently rejected. Other moderators are very knowledgeable about the various 'false claims'. I had a bit of a learning curve with discovering the report trolls.
If there is no other image for an item. I don't delete dvd covers and reject the image report.
If Tom has stated that dvd covers are fine to upload for a movie title even if there are other movie posters. I'm fine with correcting my behavior and trying to keep other moderators informed.
Personally, I do think that some of the images uploaded to popular movie titles get a little overwhelming with what is posted. However, there is plenty of other things to clean up on the popular movie titles, fan art and animated gifs.
Again, if Tom says it is fine. There are plenty of other things to keep the moderators time occupied.

I don't do much with DVD covers on Movie pages unless they're my own. I'd be fine with allowing DVD/Blu-Ray covers since people don't generally look at the DVD pages for that kind of thing. Hopefully this'd make the load a notch lighter on the other mods keeping better track of reports than I do.
Oh yeah there are! A completely innocent drawing I uploaded of Sonic the Hedgehog was thrice reported for containing nudity. Like JT said, it's generally pretty obvious when something like this happens.

Direct-to-DVD, yes, but I noticed the same problem for some old movies too. If there is no available movie poster, a DVD cover is the only way to go. It happens on IMDb too. Otherwise the movie icon would be a sad blank square saying "Upload a picture"!
If you find a proper poster, however, then I'd have no objections to deleting the DVD cover.
Just my 2 eurocents :)

@jaytoast and Pumpkinate, thanks for pointing out that there are some real idiots reporting some legit pics on this website... Is there any way for you guys to see which moderator has deleted these pics? Just to gently tell them to be more careful the next time.

@jaytoast you are great ! finally someone that admit that !
the poor people that has nothing to do than make false report for be spiteful it is a thing that a moderator could imagine but the worse it is that moderators agree with them deleting the pictures that not deserve to be deleted !

Eu acho que uma menina da Amรฉrica do Sul que adora moda estรก apagando tudo.

I had a pic deleted from natalie portman. The pic was from Phantom Menace and i dont see the problem over that picture???

I reported a bunch of images from The Phantom Menace, including some of Natalie Portman. If it is the one I think it is, that you're referring to, it was reported because it actually was from Attack of the Clones. Not The Phantom Menace. If not, I reported several duplicates.

@Rocconeverdies & Bml93
Yep, it was the image from Attack of the Clones.

Oh shit that was my mistake:D I just did not do my homework on that pic.

@Rocconeverdies Ha, your not the only one I uploaded a few screenshots to the wrong film in the "Red Ridding Trilogy"... right after I had just watched all three films :/

Hehe. Pic happens

does anybody know why peter griffin of family guy can't have a picture??? listal keeps always deleting it as invalid??!!!???!!!???

Fictional characters are not allowed under the current system. Tom is working on adding additional categories for lists, places, food, fictional characters, etc
Until, then fictional profiles are not allowed. Adding them as real people now will only cause problems once new categories are introduced.

ok! thanx!

Thanks for understanding. There are quite a few people making many profiles for fictional characters.
Still, I'm excited for when the character profiles will be available. I hope that it works like IMDb. You can click on "Hamlet" and see all the theatrical versions of the play and all the parodies.

Good to know about it!
Anyway, it would be sweet if the old "people profiles" for fictional characters can be converted to character profiles, when they are available.

I'd like to know why my profile picture, one of Chazz Reinhold from "Wedding Crashers" has been deleted. It's my own profile picture for crying out loud! And there is clearly nothing inappropriate about it.

@Chazz Reinhold
I don't see any images of "Chazz Reinhold" in your deleted images. The last image you officially had deleted was dated February 16 and it wasn't Chazz Reinhold. Did you have other images posted in your personal images?
You can try uploading the image again. Because I don't see any trace of that image being deleted.

Just a shout to some users here.
When you upload an image of better quality then an image that's already posted, please report that image. It's frustrating to scroll to trough the same images several times.
