If you are interested in Paul Verhoeven....

Check this list : www.listal.com/list/complete-review-paul-verhoeven-work (I'm just missing only 2 votes for the promotion...)

Just missing 1 little vote...
The Cinephile 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 6 3:17 -
Why do you publicly nag people to vote for your stuff? It makes me personally not want to.
Xanadon't 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 6 6:11 -
Ooo... I'm interested to see how this plays out!

Your court johan.
johanlefourbe 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 6 14:58 -
Because Xanadon't insists, I will answer to The Cinephile...

I spend a very long time on those lists but since a promotion requires nowadays a ridiculous amount of votes (12), I promote those lists here in the movie forum. I don't want to bother anyone by spamming their profile page and I think this forum is perfect for this. I mean, if you are not interested, well, you just have to skip this thread, but if you are interested, you would have probably never heard of this list without this post.

Fair enough?
The Cinephile 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 7 5:33 -
Actually, it is pretty fair. It just doesn't really work for me personally. I would never do such a thing, as it looks relatively sad on your part. I mean, if the list really is so good, it will get votes.

But, on the other hand, and I'm kind of going against what I said earlier, maybe your method is good for getting it out there. I don't know man, it sort of goes both ways. Or perhaps I overreacted. But Either way, at the time it seemed a little annoying.

And I also disagree that 12 is a ridiculous amount of votes for a promotion. It is pretty fair if you ask me.

I see where you are coming from and it is indeed kind of annoying that I try to promote my lists here. You definitely have a point.

However, you said 'If the list really is so good, it will get votes.' How?!? Will people notice them with the help of some magical influence?!?

In my opinion, there are 3 ways to get you list noticed :

- spam user profiles
- spam this forum
- have some followers who actually do follow you and vote on your lists (I have a staggering number of 157(!) followers but most of them are not really active, I'm afraid...)

The fact that your list is good or not doesn't really matter, I'm afraid... First, you have to pass those annoying 12 votes and then, only then, if your list is any good, the sky is limit. I have seen many pretty good lists stuck with 8,9 or 10 votes but since nobody has heard of them, they will probably remain forever into oblivion.

May I ask why you think that 12 votes are fair? I would rather have 3 or 4 votes meaning that someone new would have a bigger chance to get some promotion and it would also result in a quicker rotation on the front page instead of the usual (half) naked girls lists for 15 hours long...

I think we have come to a conclusion here. Keep doing what you do, as I have basically gotten over it. I just wanted a little explanation and you gave it to me.

I follow you, and vote for your stuff, but of course, one person isn't enough. And you have me stumped at the way people would discover your lists, as maybe "spamming" isn't such a terrible way. I guess I just had a brain fart there for a second. On a sidenote: I also hate the half naked lists. Pretty pointless, and I never view them anymore anyway. Doesn't really fit into what Listal is all about.

3 or 4 is a little low on votes. Maybe something like 8?
Xanadon't 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 8 7:43 -
Hmmm. Well that didn't quite satisfy my blood-lust ;)

Ha, actually it's nice to see a courteous and well-stated argument from both sides. Congratulations to you both. I think we all won today.
The Cinephile 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 9 4:37 -
LOL, sorry Xanadon't. I don't usually go furious on message boards, more so in real life, if ever. Getting along never hurt anyone ;)

Xanadon't 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 9 8:31 -
Ha, well I'd be reluctant to start a message board quarrel with you... at least as long as you've got scary-ass Anton staring me down. Gives me the jeebies.

Sunday morning, 5:28 am- there are currently 2 lists promoted to the front page with precisely 7 votes apiece. So yeah, tough to figure out the exact rhyme/reason.
johanlefourbe 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 13 15:11 -
I pretty much agree with 'The Cinephile'. His first comment was definitely not meant to be insulting and his critic was sound. We have both developped our own arguments in a civilized way and ended up the discussion with respect for the other person's point of view. It was not the 3rd WW like you hoped for...

By the way, some lists (mostly dealing with movies or half naked girls) need 12 votes to be promoted. Other lists (mostly dealing with books or music) are promoted with 7 votes. Basically, it all depends what is the subject of your list.
Xanadon't 11 years, 5 months ago at Nov 14 9:10 -
Ah, yes! In retrospect that does seem to be the pattern. I would've taken me forever to figure out that people/movie lists don't show up until they receive 12 votes, while the generally less-popular music/book lists need only 7.
