Ichi The Killer

If you've seen this movie, what do you think about it? I know some people rave about the movie, some people despise it. Personally, I enjoyed it's humor and the characters and what I think it's ultimate message was. However, some people who like this movie only like it because of the gore/violence. Most people don't like it for the gore/violence.

Where do you fall?

although i'm a big fan of japanese cinema i think ichi is one of the typical trash movies from miike. i think he only gets two categories of movies done: very good ones like oodishon and trash like ichie or izo, nothing in between.

i don't mind the gore, and i normally don't mind "weird" movies, but ichie sucks in every category, be it the crazy storyline, the bad acting or the missing suspense. the movie has really nothing to keep you watching. it seems like ichie wants to be everything, from comedy to drama to action-flick, but it doens't accomplish any of these genres.

I tend to look at the different genre changes as a furthering of the theme of these people essentially being disjointed and insane. Though, I've been know to overanalyze a thing to death, heh.

I love that movie. It's just a really neat experience, and if anything, proof at how tame American films can really be. In America, people find Saw and Hostel to be the goriest things about. It's always fun to show a friend something like Ichi the Killer.

The movie itself isn't really that great, but it has one of my favorite actors in it, has great music and cinematography...it's a cool movie.
