How many people are actually active in Listal?

I'm a huge fan of Listal but I wish more users were active here.
My approximations :
Accounts created : 30 000 - 40 000
Accounts active from time to time : 1000
Accounts active daily : maybe 100
Imagine how it would be with 500 000 users on Listal... That would be awesome... maybe one day...
What do you think ? Are we more on Listal ? Do you think it's better that it stays that way ?

I'd love for things to get more active. Let's look at the bright side: We have a rare and dedicated worldwide community, and a much greater ability to share our thoughts and interests with others than we could ever have with private domains. Somehow Tom's got all these lists and reviews of ours out and people have seen them. I've looked up a few of my lists, and people have actually used them in articles and things for reference to what they're talking about. Now I'm not an attention seeker, but I like my work to be shared with others and this is great to me.
My point is, I think Listal's been noticed in a lot of ways. But I totally agree I'd like it to get much more popular in the future. The only reason I wouldn't like this is if it leads to all the kinds of problems that plague other social networking sites... But I've had an enlightening conversation with Tom and he's stated blatantly that you do NOT put bananas in refrigerators, for what it's worth.

johanlefourbe, i was thinking the same thing this week and made close approximations! accounts created are now over 50k i think

Maybe it needs real-time Ajax feeds and updates like Facebook, so that we can see user actions as they happen. And an online indicator on the profile pages. Then give major visibility to users who are currently online (ex: clicking www.listal.com/will-smith/fans or ratings would show who is online first then offline users)

Based on forum activity I think there are only a dozen active members ;)

@Nonfictionguy, exactly my point!

I get on listal everyday. It's like an addiction. :x

@TeamDaiGurren, you belong to one of the 100 users you come here everyday... I wish 100.000 users would do the same!!!

I'm still on everyday but my activity has definately decreased. All the fighting has kind of turned me off to listal. And maybe it's just me, but I feel like the amount of good, active users has decreased since I joined.

I think many active users don't like to interact this much. They will never come here in the Forums and read this :P

@tersanay, since you are a moderator, you have to deal with lots of sh*t. Respect for that! I see your point, nowadays, there are indeed more users but there are only here to check and/or upload softporn pics which are not my main point of interest... I wish more people would come in Listal and share their passion about books/music/movies!
@Felipe Unger, Honestly, I don't really care if people are active on the Forums or not. I come here because I'm bored and I don't want to create another list (I'm above the 350 lists already!)... I just wish there were more users in Listal, that's all!

I agree with whatever Johan and others have said here!

:)) Lately I get on listal just to check & rate the movies I've seen and to complete my watched in 2011 list. Even though IMDb and ICheckMovies have similar options, I prefer listal. For the rest I donno but I kinda lost interest... maybe it's that enthusiasm at first... but after a while u got bored to see almost the same lists over and over again (especially those "girls or men with hands/eyes/hair/legs" lists) and u find out that u don't give a shit anymore.

Ah yes, What ever Coby here said is true... I mean, how many 'hot' lists can you see? I'm tired of the same lists being promoted nowadays and good, vote-worthy lists are rarely getting promoted + many users just make accounts only to add the 'hot' pictures and engage in PM chatting... sorry guys, but join some steaming chat room or Facebook!

@Coby, yeah, it is pretty common... When you start, you get all excited but after a while, it's not so interesting anymore. And indeed, the fact that 50 % of the website activity is dealing with softporn pics doesn't help much either...
@Happy Vader, did you try to put the Mature content filter ? Maybe it helps...

I don't know, let's see...

Coming back to what Coby said, I don't really care if users are spending hours on Listal, my concern is more about the number of users who goes on listal everyday. I think it would be nice if 100 000 users would check Listal everyday, like IMDB for example.

Merry Christmas, my active and non-active Listal friends! :)

@johanlefourbe what if the promoted lists could be not only voted (upvoted) but also downvoted sort of like links on reddit.com?

I check this site everyday. I have tried sites like ICheckMovies, but I like Listal for its speed and ease of use.

@Felipe Unger, Merry Christmas to you too and everyone else reading this!
I'm not sure about the downvoting... It sounds really mean to me! And I'm not so sure the atmosphere would be better. Personally, I would just line that more people would come here, that's all!

I agree with johanlefourbe. As unfair as it seems that skin-based lists receive lots of votes while text-based ones have less, downvoting is too negative. I'm not saying we need to provide shelter from the carnage that is life, but people can make a constructive comment and it will launch a discussion rather than hurt feelings at having one's work downvoted.
Happy we can hash this out though. Suggestions are always appreciated. ;] I believe it has been brought up at least once before, and Tom didn't go for it.

Indeed, even though it seems attractive, the downvoting could create some 'wars' ... 'you have downvoted my lists... I will downvote all yours!!!!'

@johanlefourbe yea I can see that becoming an issue.
I am just getting kind of tired of getting on Listal and every promoted list being a list of porn stars sitting by pools or getting wet. I don't care about porn and this site isn't about porn so it's just irritating.
And then we speak up and say something about it, and everyone one of the users who make their accounts to only provide positive feedback to that kind of behavior get in a tizzy and become super defensive about it.

@johanlefourbe I think it would not create wars if the list of users who downvoted was not made public.
This is what I have imagined:

And the recently promoted items screen, something similar to:

I haven't been very active on Listal and even when I'm 'active'. I'm not really doing much of anything.
However, I am 100% against "down voting". Do you honestly think that the type of people who seem to have enough time to upload 600 images of one supermodel in ONE day don't also have the spare time to go through and systematically down vote every list that isn't theirs?
I think a majority of the top creative and supportive Listal members, also have jobs, families... take vacations and wouldn't really have the time for 'down voting' silliness. Just like most members don't even seem to have the time to vote on an images even if they use that image in a list... so... getting more activity out of people who aren't very active doesn't really sound like an answer.
Yep, takes effort to find a great list to vote on and talk about. It also takes time to create those lists. Even in the 'good old days of Listal' that was always the case. There is just more to sort through.
Well, one thing is for sure. That in the post-apocalyptic aftermath, guns, cigarettes, alcohol and postcards of supermodels holding kittens will all be in high demand.

I completely disagree on the downvoting thing!

I think quite a few people are active here :}

'Well, one thing is for sure. That in the post-apocalyptic aftermath, guns, cigarettes, alcohol and postcards of supermodels holding kittens will all be in high demand.' It doesn't sound too bad actually... Does it make me a bad person?!?

No, hopefully it means you will be prepare for natural disasters. Silly people stocking up on bottled water ;)

I can imagine the whole thing... Stocking up bottled water, tinfood, 1000's of dvds, I would lock myself up and watch movies all day long. Still doesn't sound too shabby, does it? I guess, until the power get shut down !!!! Then, I will have to eventually get outside and fight those damned zombies... Ok, I watch too many movies, that's official...

I check listal for every movie and game that I have heard about but want to know more, so I am here almost every day, even though I don't create lists so much. I think it would be great if we got a larger amount of reviews here. It would probably get more people to check out the site and attract more active users. I'm not one to talk though, I barely write actual reviews of anything. I'll have to change that!
For books though I still like that site goodreads more, it just seems better rganized for different editions/multiple printings etc. were listal has a separate items for each one, making it confusing. It's mostly the movies that bring people in tho anyway.

Interesting point, Mackenzi! I'm not sure if more reviews would attract more users but it is an interesting thought. Unfortunately, nowadays, the main attraction are naked chicks....

omg i know its so upsetting D:
